Is there any use in ordering early?

Just wondering... is there any point at all in ordering a 2011 early?

I mean, it seems like I've read a few stories where people ordered cars early and did not get them until long after vehicles were at the dealerships. I don't want to put in an order and pay a deposit unless I'm going to get my car before I can walk into the dealership and buy the exact same combination off of the lot.

There's no guarentee that your order will get there before one sitting on the lot...due to many factors.

One being options, and possible holds (ie you order a glass roof, and there's a limit on how many the dealership has, or if there's a supplier issue)

or if its been held up for random testing.

or dealers allocation is small.

I'm thinking of just waiting for the 2011's to start showing up at the dealers. By then they will be road test done in magazines and on television shows.

The problem comes in not knowing all of the variables, and not trusting that I will be kept in the loop. Why is it that I can track the progress of a $5 book I buy from Amazon.com better than I can track the progress of a $35,000 automobile?

You can order a car with a 50 dollar down payment and if something hits the lots before your order comes in, you haven't lost to much if they won't give it back

Can you track your book-being-made process?
Or just the shipping?

Just sayin

If you're not being kept in the loop, that's a dealer problem..not a Ford problem.
When I ordered my 05, I was kept in the loop at every stage, to the point of 'its shipped, it should be here within 5-10 days'

I agree that it is mostly a dealer problem. I agree that I cannot track the progress of a book being made on Amazon.com, but that is because they don't make the books, they just sell them. Ford makes the cars and licensed dealers sell them, so why can't I just log on to some Ford site and see my order status?

I've worked in the auto industry. The monitoring on the line is to the point where they always know where each vehicle is in the process. Once the vehicle is built, it has a bar code on it that is scanned at each point in the delivery process. There is no reason that Ford could not take this data and feed it into a web application so that we can see our vehicle progress from the start of the line until it arrives at our door.

I'd be willing to write it. All it will cost them is a 2011 GT500 with all the options.
