Hello everybody, been lurking for a couple weeks and just signed up New 2013 mustang v6 in black with tech package and i have been having an issue with sync and i was curious if anybody could assist.

First. For some reason i am not able to make calls using voice commands. Such as "Call mom" it will not call and i have to manually enter the number, scroll through recents, or go through whole phonebook.

Second. Every time i sync my phone on itunes such as adding new music and then plugging into car via USB port and i will say "Play artist Van Halen" it then says "Speech control not available with this device" I then have to remove the microsoft sync fuse and do a master reset and then it will start working again.

The car is fantastic and i can't wait to start cracking into mods, but this sync issue has been a giant pain in the ***. Anybody that can help will be much obliged. Btw im using an iphone 5 on the latest iOS

 

My dealer has a SYNC specialist that handles customer education and all issues that come up, might check with yours and see if they don't have someone like that too.

Dumb question, but could i take it to a different ford dealership then what i bought it from? The one i bought it from is about 2 and a half hours away.

 

You should be able to take it to any Ford dealer. I don't use my phone for music in my '14. I have a USB thumb drive with a ton of music on it and Sync works great. I have an Android phone and it links up via bluetooth and I'm able to 'call name' or dial number or answer calls.

I know that if I want to use the nav app on my phone and have directions come through the car's stereo, I'll have to make the phone the source. I'll be able to play music from it, but will have to control it with the Android app rather than with Sync voice commands.

 

Any Ford dealer can service your car and perform warranty work but if it is just a case of having someone show you how to perform all the SYNC functions then the dealer who sold you the car would be obligated to do this for you.

Now, if there is some defect or fault in the system then that would be a warranty issue and any dealer can do that.

 

On your first issue, are you saying "phone" before saying "call mom"? The first time you press the Sync button, you need to tell it what device you want to control unless you're already using that device (i.e. playing from USB, then doing a USB voice command). If you just press sync and tell it to call mom, you won't get anywhere.

The second issue just requires patience, I think. When you disconnect a device and then reconnect, Sync has to index all the files on it, which is why it's best to leave the device connected all the time. Depending on how many files you have, that can take 10-15 minutes. If it's a phone that you can't leave in the car, connect with Bluetooth Audio instead. You'll lose the ability to control via Sync but you can at least play music quickly and easily without needing to reindex.

That's what I was thinking Kyle. I still forget to that sometimes. Op, if that doesn't work, try removing the phone from the system then sync it again. I had to do this with my Wifey's 2010.

iPhone or Android (if so, which OS version) and are you 100% you had to download your phonebook when you initially set up the phone?

 

He said he's on an iPhone5 with latest OS.
