Sync and Iphone 4 issue

Hey guys,

I was messing around with SYNC and noticed something odd and was wondering if anyone else has run into this problem. So here's the problem in a nutshell: if I'm playing music from my iPhone 4 via USB and then turn off the car, when I restart it the song continues from where it left of (as it should). However, as soon as bluetooth connects, the song keeps playing but there is no more audio. If I turn off bluetooth, then there's no problem but of course I can't receive or make calls either.

Another thing would be to just play the music via bluetooth which is fine but when you do that, it doesn't index it so you can't use SYNC voice commands to play playlists or certain songs.

The only solution I can think of is to put all my songs on the harddrive of the car but I was wondering if anyone else has run into this? My dealership basically didn't know how to fix it and mentioned to go to syncmyride.com. They have that issue there but their solution (which is to turn off automatic phonebook downloading) doesn't work at all.

So yeah, any thoughts? Thanks!

I just use an extra iPod connected via USB for my music and use my phone for calls via Bluetooth.

Simplest solution for me.

Yup 100% this. It's much easier and you can keep eyes on the road.

Ideally that would be great but I don't have another MP3 player (gave away my ipod to relatives since I didn't need it).

This happens because the phone is recognizing the Sync Bluetooth connection first. From the iPod menu (on your multitasking bar where you set for various AirPlay devices) just change it from Sync to Dock Connector.

A small pain, but it works for me.

Thanks for the tip. It does reinitialize the audio to continue playing but it doesn't fix the audio cutoff when bluetooth reconnects. If there was a way to keep it defaulted to dock connector instead of SYNC it might work but I don't think you can do that.

Put the music on your hard drive. It sounds better.

I had the same problem with my 3GS. It also defaulted to the line input and I always had to switch it to USB. I decided to get a flash drive and dump all of my music onto it. Works nicely. I also have a charger from my old car, so I have that plugged in for when I want to charge my phone.

Why wouldn't you go ahead and put your music on the hard drive, and play it from there?

That's what I'm doing but it takes a while to rip a cd to the hard drive since you can only do audio CDs not mp3 data CDs.

Will sync play the iTunes format if saved to the harddrive?

I haven't tried but I'm going to assume it won't.

I've read in several places that SYNC doesn't play well with IOS 4.2 and later. I'm sure there will be a SYNC update to address this in the future.

However your best bet for music is to use a USB hard drive or classic iPod. It will function better.
