Sync and Android users...I need some help.

I have the electronics package and the HTC EVO 4G.

I am noticing that when I click on the phonebook on the Sync screen, it does not show all of my contacts that are in the phone. I've deleted the device and had it sync again with the same result.

If I hit the voice command button and say "Call <Insert name of someone not showing up under phonebook>" it recognizes the person and dials for me.

So I'm wondering if any of you have any insight on what could be the issue.

My next step is to look at which ones are showing up, look at the contact details on my phone, and comparing them to the ones that aren't. Maybe something in the profile that is causing the issue.

I have a droid x and haven't ever tried to look at the phonebook list on the screen, may i ask why you are trying to view the list on the screen if calling out their name works?

I'm not a huge fan of using the voice command feature. Especially if I'm just sitting at a light.

I know I could just do it through my phone and Sync will take over once the call is connected.

I was just curious why it isn't downloading every contact.

I'm using a G1, and I see all of my contacts in the phonebook on the radio screen.

One thing that I notice about sync is that it can be picky. Go to your Gmail account, and look at the contacts that are not showing up. Check that the names are located in the correct fields. The old contacts interface allowed you to enter just a business name without a (person's) name. I think Sync needs name in order to display the contact.

Old Edit Name Dialog...

New Edit Name Dialog...

I'm going to check this out tonight to see which contacts aren't syncing and look deeper into their profile.

Hmmm not all of my contacts are showing up either.
I have a Nexus One.

I wonder if just the "favorites" show?
I'll have to take a look on the drive home tonight to see if I can see a pattern.

I don't have my car with me, but by looking through my contacts and remembering the ones that didn't show up in Sync, they both (a) were first names only and (b) had labels (i.e. Friends/Family/Coworker).

There must be a field that is screwing it up.

Labels shouldn't be a problem. All of my contacts are labeled.

So I think I figured out the problem......User Error

I didn't know that when you hit phonebook, then the "ABC" button, the first time you hit it only your As will show. Hit it again....the Bs show...and so on.

I was hitting it once thinking it would show all the A through Cs.

I thought "ABC" showed all the A's and B's and C's also.
Will definitely hit that button on the drive home tonight.
