stick or auto??
My personal favorite thing about manual transmission is that you can control the revolutions in each gear, effectively taking advantage of your exhaust noise while slowly cruising and enjoying the lovely tunes spewing out of the exhaust. Yep, you can do this with an Auto....
For me it's about rush hour traffic in the heart of downtown Minneapolis 5 days a week.
My last GT was a manual and I found there were more days where I wished I had an auto than there were days I wished I had a manual. This might've been because rolling in first was too slow for rush hour traffic, but traffic was never moving fast enough to put it in second, so I was always either revving it to 3k to move like 10-15 mph (no thanks), or getting into second only to have to ride the clutch or throw it back in neutral and coast/brake. Maybe the new Mustang would be geared better for rush hour, but I didn't want to take that chance.
Whatever you buy, there will be days where you wish you had the other (for a DD anyway).

For me, when I bought my 2013 GT, I wasn't sure if I was going to use it as a dd or not. As I have a medical condition that sometimes prevents me to use my leg properly, I decided to go with an automatic.
I now use my Mustang as a weekend car, and I have a Ford Edge as a dd, and is till don't regret getting a manual. The leg problem also happens in the weekend, and I can still use my stang!
And honestly, the new seleshift tranny is pretty good. I drive the mountain twisties quite often and there is no problem doing that using the seleshift.
To the OP: you just need to do a real good test drive in both and decide from there. make sure you have a sales man, that let's you push the paddle! And smoke some tires. Mine did!
I have the answer to all of this!!!!
Buy Both!!!!
One for when you want a manual and the auto when you don't!!
If you are going to track the car go Manual. If not go Auto. The Automatic in the Mustang is just to slow to down shift. The ones I drove had to much of a delay for any track time. IMO. Until they get a Twin Clutch DSG style trans it is not an option for me.

The Manual is really fun. The auto is faster hands down. Rumbling RPM's is great with good exhaust.
My manual is a DD. However, very seldom am I in backed up traffic. Manuals on backed up traffic are no fun. If you do that every day, I'd think hard about it. If your not going to drag race and like muffler sounds, fun/control of car, get a manual.

If your Mustang is a daily driver, and you travel a significant distance in rush hour bumper to bumper traffic, the auto makes a ton of sense. The point is, if you have to spend a lot of time in a car because you have to, you might as well make the journey as comfy as possible.
I just retired in April, got my Mustang in May, and I wanted the stick. No rush hour drives for me anymore.

Some people like driving a stick, even in traffic. I like the extra work that needs to be done, it means when I'm in my car I'm actually driving, and not just sitting in a big steel box as the world goes by. Yes it's more fun when there isn't another car in sight, but I still have fun in traffic.
Ba ha ha ha ha
That's cool man and that's why its best to have options like stick and auto. Some want to actually drive their car. Some, like me want to sit in a semi steel and plastic box as the world goes around and conduct oral interviews with lady friends. Far harder to conduct when driving manual. Not saying it can't be done but far far easier and enjoyable when auto.

Manual transmission builds a stronger relationship between car and driver. There's something special in learning what the trans likes/dislikes, and knowing that not everybody can just get in and drive it like you do.
The downsides to me are general MT82 paranoia and when autos want a dig race lol.

Poor you. When I orfer my '12 GT vert, I said to my wife, I'm getting a manual transmission. SHe did "but I won"t be able to drive it." I said, that';s your choice. You see 27 years ago when we first met and I had my Jetta GLI 5-speed, I taught her to drive it and she was doing just fine. But she said " why would anyone want to do this?" (shift gears). Some just don't get it. I bought 4 new cars since that Jetta. All autos so she could rive them. New stand GT as an auto? No way brother.
I’m just having a bit of fun. I do find it fascinating how some frame the argument though. Anyway to each his own so let’s just get out there and enjoy (some more than others LOL) our cars. J

I have a manual and I DD my Mustang in NYC, the good thing is I work the overnights, so traffic is not bad at all. Even so, my last car I had almost 90,000 miles on the stock clutch before I traded it in for the Mustang, and I drove it in bumper to bumper traffic a lot, I had to ride the clutch a lot of times too because traffic was just crawling. With the mustang, I find I have to kind of lightly ride the clutch a bit or deal with all the jerking in 1st and 2nd gear at such slow speeds, but I still rather have a manual than an auto. And yes, I admit, I have stalled a few times in traffic because I was not paying attention, but I just restart the car and roll on.
Now, if I could afford two cars, my DD may be an auto, but insurance, parking, and cost of living in the city says NO, I can only afford one car, so it's my fun and commuter car.

Less than an hour ago I ran to the store in my wife's car. When I got in it I pushed my left foot on the clutch only to have it hit the floor. Literally had half a second of WTF... Before I realized... Automatic transmission. I giggled to myself and new I would have to chime in on this post finally. My DD is a auto... But my Mustang is a stick. I LOVE rowing the gears!
