I'm just thinking of the poor mans solution to grip. Lol. How wide a tire can fit over the stock brembo 19x9s?
I have 275/40's all around on mine

The stock Brembo wheels will take a 285/35-19 or even a taller 285/40-19 tire with no problem

Tire compound is actually more important then the size.
And I must say that even a set of Drag Radials will find it hard to handle your Blown 5.0.

What do you guys think of this approach? Say putting a 275 nitto DR out back? Way cheaper. It won't match my pirellis up front, but......

I spent 2 years convincing my wife of my last purchase, I wonder if I can convince her in time for summer lol...

I could still get 20s in say, AMR charcoal, with TPMS for under 2k shipped, but the widest they have is 285 for the packages.

I say get serious and put a steel 15x10 with a 28x10.5 MT ET street.
Serious power requires serious hook up.

But seriously a 275 DR in the rear is a viable option for now.

Burton, a buddy of mine might be interested in your Brembo wheels/tires to put on his '13 GT premium.

Have you come up with a price of what you'd want for them and when they'd be available?

Craig… do you have a close up rear view of your rear tires? I would like to see how much "tire" sticks out past the stock rims. Obviously it would be 275 - 255 = 20mm/25.4 = .79"…. divide that by 2 = .39" each side.

Really? Yeah I'm actually interested in selling it as well. I have another buddy here that might buy it too. I'll pm you Gabe… Need your advice as to how much as well.

I might be getting closer to new rims/tires than I thought.

CV1 20" wheels 9" +32 offset 255 35 front and 10.5" +42 offset 275 35 rear. These don't rub on Eibach Pro Kit. Just make sure you have splash guards and side splitters to protect the paint.

Burton,

A drag set up like the ones being tossed about are going to degrade the handling characteristics your car currently has. I think first you have to define what your ultimate goal is, straight line or aggressive road. The difference in wheel and tire choices between the two will have a marked affect handling. What works well in a straight line is not at all what you want on a curvy road or road course unless you want to see the rhubarb up close and personal. Again, the inverse is true. Take your road race set up to the quarter and fall flat on your face.

Obviously your call but make sure you’re thinking about the compromises and which direction you’re leaning. My personal taste is road course…I’m guessing you lean that way as well since you’ve already lowered the car which is not something you would necessarily do for a drag set up.

Regards,
John

So would you say 19x9.5 with 275/40 all around be good for road courses?

Darren those are awesome. I was hoping to go wider in the rear though? Maybe 295s or 305s on 20 x 10.5 or 11?

I may have found a source where they can do 20 nurburgrings plus pilot super sports for a good price. I'm debating. I need a buyer for my oem brembos tho.

I got my TSW Nurbirgrings and Nitto Invo's from Cruzin Concepts Wholesale for a decent price, but still a bit higher than you stated your goal was. I have a TPMS tool I could let you borrow if that's an issue.

Front - Wheels 20X8 / Tire - 255/35ZR-20
Rear - 20X10 / Tire - 295/35ZR-20

Please PM me what price you paid for your setup, bro?

In general… anyone else know of any potential BIG black friday sales or cyber monday sales for rims and tires coming up?

Edit… I am LOVIN' those TSW Nurburgring's in Matte Gunmetal. Holy moly. Gorgeous. Also comes in 255 front and 295 rears… on invos. 20x8.5 and 20x10, with +40 offsets. Those should work right??? I hope they come with TPMS tho… hmmm

Edit #2: I also love those Niche Milan wheels… wow.

Road course tires will benefit from a shorter sidewall, as cornering will not push the wheel over onto the tire's sidewall as much. A tire with a /40 ratio will provide too much side wall and the tires will "squish" around a turn if taken hard. Same thing with tires that are too wide for the rims: they will roll over more than they're supposed to, and you will end up with a tire that loses the bead if driven too aggressively.

Conversely, a wider sidewall is better for straight-line/drag racing applications, as it allows the tire to flex more under load (especially when the tire is deflated below normal driving pressure).

Across the board, any vehicle putting out 600hp or more is going to need as wide a rear tire as possible, especially on a vehicle that is balanced the way the mustang is. Anything less and you will find yourself leaving strips of that expensive but too-narrow rubber on the pavement instead of it translating into velocity. That leads to babying the throttle to avoid chirping the tires on a green light in front of the cop facing the opposite direction. I had Nitto 305/35/20 NT555R's on the back, and they didn't do so well with the stock HP/TQ on the Shelby.

Fitment charts say anywhere between a 9 and 11 inch wheel width will work. For optimal fit always aim for the middle. That said the 9.5 will definitely work (and is the width I have my 275's mounted on) but a 10" is probably a wee bit better fit. Depending on how serious you are about your track times, I would probably go with a 35 series tire...but keep in mind there is ride quality to handling trade off in between the 35 and 40's. It all depends on where your priorities fall.

Regards,
john
