The Official "How did you/are you ordering you 2011 Mustang" thread
I guess I should go ahead and toss my details up here.
Order date: Feb. 13th
GT
Manual
401A
Kona Blue
Black/GB
3.55
And go ahead and check everything but "spoiler delete". No other notes.
Got mine through the Exchange New Car Sales program for deployed military personnel. I would have to say it is the best possible way to get a new Ford (or Chrysler or Harley). MSRP was $43,725, I paid $40,256. No dealer, no haggling, no problems, just a friendly Irish guy (for some reason every ENCS guy is Irish). The figure I paid included a $2000 military rebate. I won't take delivery of my car until next March 18th (my birthday), since I won't be back stateside 'til Feb. 2011.
If rebates go up at any point in time up to and including next February, I get them automatically. Since rebates for '11s will go up quite a bit when the '12s come out, I expect to pay less than $40k. If, when the 2012s come out, the options are more to my liking, I can take all the money I've put on the '11 and move it over to a '12. I can pay any amount of money towards the car I want until the day I take delivery and it all counts as a down payment, so I've got 10 months to pay off on this car. I don't expect to finance more than $20k.
And, this also allows me to get an '11 after all the bugs and kinks are worked out of it! So yeah, I won't have get my mustang 'til most of you have already taken it in for its first oil change, but I guess that's life. I'll just have to live vicariously through all of you.

I see that a lot of you guys are ordering the electronics package. After i've seen a few pics with the nav system, it really looks nice. Dual climate control is nice as well. Is it worth the $2000 asking price for what you get ? I don't intend to play videos or stuff like that. But the nav i could use for sure. Screen must look nice when light up at night.

It's definitely a luxury item. It's hard to justify on a purely practical basis, but you can say the exact same thing about getting a GT over a V6. Or getting a V6 Mustang over a less expensive but more practical car, like a $12,000 Hyundai. I decided to get it. I'm getting a dream car, and the Electronics Package is the icing on the cake. I've never read a post from someone who has one in their 2010 and wishes they hadn't bought it.
2011 Candy Red GT Premium

- 401A Premiere Trim (Charcoal and Cashmere)
- Brembo Brake Package
- 3.73 rear axle
- Electronics Package
- Comfort Package
- Security Package

Don't know the ETA or the VIN yet, but they're on hold anyway. This replaces the silver automatic 2004 Mustang V6 that got me through college. Yeah, this is going to be a bit of a transition.

When you can buy a nice portable GPS unit for under $300, the Electronics package looks overpriced, although most companies charge about $2K for their built-in navigation systems. On the other hand, the system in the Mustang is voice controlled, which is something you don't get in most cars and certainly don't get with the portable units. There are a lot of features that come in the nav unit and they've already been listed so I won't go over them.

That's not true. I know bpmurr on here wishes he didn't get it, but I believe his car was a dealer stock purchase. I want it just for the cleaner dash and dual zone climate control. I like the features, but I know they will be obsolete pretty soon with MyFord making its way to all the new Ford models. It would be good enough for me at this point (well the head unit part of the equation; I would yank the factory stereo and do a complete custom audio system post-delivery, but that's probably just me).
The $2k price tag scared me about the nav system as well, ut afte rplaying with it for a few mins, I knew I had to have it. It's integrated into the car so well.
I plan on keeping this car for a long time, and I know the tech will be obsolete very shortly, but so will the rest of the car.

I don't think the Elec. pkg will be as obsolete as you might think. As long as Ford keeps it updated and offers extra goodies for it as they develop it, I'd get it. I just hope Ford was more forward thinking with the hardware specs to keep it from falling into obsolescence and making it a $2400 waste. I'm thinking that after using it that it's a worthy purchase. Either that or opt for the glass roof.
Since i'm a huge gadget person, that electronics package is a no-brainer for me. The one down side I see is the 10 gig of space you can use can only be loaded up with songs off a CD....not from your USB drive.
Huh? the price I got was 300 bucks under invoice. I'm pretty confident that you'd be hard pressed to find a dealer in the country that would give you a better price. And I also know I didn't "get taken for a ride". The dealer I bought from doesn't haggle on price. They only have 1 price. It's 300 bucks below invoice for every and any car. The dealer maybe makes an 800 dollar profit on a 26 grand car. It doesn't get any fairer than that without the dealer actually making any money.

That is one of the biggest things I hope that Ford can change with an update to the system. I'd love to load a bunch of music on there to just always have and rotate new music with my iPod.
I'm not worried about the 10GB storage, since I'll use the iPod to store all of my music anyways. It would be nice to allow that transfer, but it's not essential.
I still want to see Ford add features to the Elec. pkg equipped vehicles that won't be getting MyFordTouch for some time. I suggested that the eco-route be added as an update down the road for nav-equipped vehicles. There are a few things that could really make that package worthwhile.
I'm considering doing a LockPick and setting up a Magden gauge set for the screen.
EDIT - Magden might be OOB...boo.
