New Spy Shots
I tweaked my original chop to better incorporate the info on the following link, as well as moved the turn signals to the outside as many people seem to think they would go there:

but based on this pic it looks to me that they go on the inside:

like in my original which I like a little more:

Focus Group...
If everyone there had a problem with the taillights maybe they redesigned them for production (easy fix in the timeframe) and these ones we're seeing are from before the change.
I tend to agree, the little fix with the 08 Focus foglamps shows how easy that sort of thing is to change before production.
IMO, since 1982, Ford has always improved the styling of each new re-skin or re-design. But, I am nervous about them changing the interior. I am a big fan of the retro look. The biggest decision I will have to make is should I buy a 2009 SE(Mach1?) or wait for the 2010 re-skin? I am leaning towards the 09 SE.
Completely agree
In that way, I could perhaps see a very highly tuned 3.5/3.7 V6 playing a role, but perhaps more so, a 4V version of the 4.6, or the AJ motor, or perhaps some smaller version of the upcoming Boss engine line. Add a more competent IRS, bigger better brakes and just a lot more attention to suspension and control tuning and balance and you can have a Stang that combines American V8 oomph with Continental balance and agility.
Rhumb, I think you and were both hoping for something like this at the debut of S197. I have recently wondered what it would take to put two different body styles on the platform. In essence create two "Mustangs." One having a modern image/style as well as smaller but highly tuned engines and a IRS, and the other having a more "classic" (not necessarily retro) look and following in the more power/straight line idea (SLA included).
Ford would get a bit more market share off of the parts that are hardest to engineer.
