New 2013 5.0 at dealership??????
Still gonna have the factory warranty that starts when it's sold... all the known issues with the '13/14 are identified. Yeah, the book value will reflect that it's a 2 year old model... but a brand new one with 100 miles drops like a rock as well. Eventually, that dealer will have the last brand new 2013 convertible available... and somebody will want it bad enough to pay for it. Id they've kept it this long, I wouldn't expect them to give it away now.
by the way, Love your username rings a bell for some reason.

Here's one with a glass roof. 35k was as low as they would go.

I still say buy very low mileage/gently used/un modded with extended warranty. I know people want "their gluteus to be the first in the seat" but the depreciation is crazy after you take ownership. That feeling of newness quickly subsides as you pull out of the lot into the dirty rain of everyday elements and family budgeting.
Also, time passes and yes your NEW car ages no matter how much you coddle it. New models come out. Often cases the used car looks better than the new.
No one can tell your purchased new car from the guy that bought his used.
You're both revving around on the same car except someone has more money for mods.
Four mustangs later, I will never buy new again.

It will be hard on the dealer to sale this car. All of the holdbacks are gone, so all of the invoice is in his ballpark. If your Pops gets it for 10K off he needs to pay quick, and get off the lot before they come to their senses. I do feel for the dealer sitting on this car, he will lose money either way he sales it, to your Pop or at auction. Good luck to Pop, I do hope he gets it.
BTW, my '13 Vert stickered at 43,415. Dayum things are high.

So my father went back to that dealership and spoke with the salesman about negotiation of the sale. The lowest the dealership would go on the car they told him was invoice. 41k firm. As he began to laugh and walk out, the salesman got his manager and again best they could do was 41k.
Why would someone pay 41k for a 13 model that's 2 years old when one can buy the same 14 model for around 36k. Ba ha ha ha. Clearly that dealership does not want to really sell that 2013 model or ever really wanted to sell that model. They want to be a bit greedy so they will have to find someone desperate for a 13 model and willing to pay 41k.

My father told him, if he was going to pay a dealership 41k for a 5.0 mustang it wasn't gonna be for a 2 year old leftover model and would just buy a 2015 convertible 5.0 model. The salesman said something to the effect about no way he would be getting a 2015 model for 41k when it comes out and no soon time after that. No incentives will be out on 2015 models and good luck finding dealerships to take money off MSRP.
My father chuckled at the guy and said no big deal, I can wait, no hurry!

Um...I hate to say 'I told you so'...but...go back and see my original post early on in the thread - I pasted it above. The other user's posts suggesting the dealer would sell the car for low $30s are not being too realistic. If you dad wants the car (and it sounds like he does), maybe he should try a follow-up call, and move up to $39k. If that 2013 has some expensive options (Premium, Electronics Package, Comfort Package, etc.), then the dealer is correct, you cannot get too much lower on a 14 or 15. These items add big $$ to the price of the vehicle, period. Plus it's a convertible. We are not talking about a stripper base model.
It's not worth 41k, now or ever, and 39k is still way too high. I'm sure there will be good deals on 14s once the new 15s roll out. Time to find another dealer. Sounds like this dealer won't be selling a lot of 15s either, based on their 'no discounts off MSRP' comment. Could be they care more about selling trucks or Fusions, and are willing to wait for a sucker on the convertible.
This would be the same dealer that would offer you only 31k for a trade in value if you bought it for whatever silly price it was sold but then you changed your mind and wanted a coupe instead.

No doubt your right about some noob getting bent over and screwed out of 41k for it but unfortunately for the salesman my father is 68 years of age and purchased a few cars in his thus far living years. Ha ha ha!
