I still haven't even had a chance to read the scans yet since I've been so busy with work

With all the great effort put into this engine, I won't hesitate to buy a "first year" model- seems like all the parameters have been covered and this engine is STOUT from the get go.

It can run both. 412hp on 91 octane, and something like 10-12hp less on 87.

I don't think that was confirmed, about power ratings.
But yes it has the adaptive tuning based on octane.

That was a good read and Ford really did an great job sorting things out, now if only they could do a tall deck version that could squeeze out alot more cubes.

The thing that got me most excited in the article was the heads. I hope Ford releases the flow chart on them soon! Seems like there's a lot of power to be had if they flow that well (outflowing Yates racing heads at maximum lift). It's a HUGE reason LS motors make lots of power (great head design).

They are pretty darn nice, but very dependent on Fords neat-o implementation of the injector and VVT strategy for good air and fuel homogenization.

My favorite part is where Mark Harrison is quoted as saying, "We knew someday there would be a supercharged version of the engine."

I can't wait to see that SE!

But yes it has the adaptive tuning based on octane.

Specs on last page state 412 hp @6500 rpm, 91 octane and 402 hp @6500 rpm, 87 octane.

Edit, also states 390 lb-ft @4250 rpm, 91 octane and 377 lb-ft @4250 rpm, 87 octane.

The amount of boost that the 5.0 will handle will be done by trial and error just like the 4.6.

Just saw that.

Finally on the last page I noticed they mentioned about Copperhead.

On page 66, I like where it says on the sidebar "Engine and Transmission swap fans will be happy to know the engine mounts and bellhousing bolt pattern will be carryovers from the 4.6. block."

We have 93 here. Does that mean we will make slightly more power?

I doubt it, unless Ford takes the 93 octane into consideration.
