How do people get such high MPG with their mustang GT?

Drive it like a grandma and I'll get 18 back and forth to the city.. (That would be shifting around 2200-2500)keeping the RPMS at cruising around 1500-2000 that's about 35-55MPH
Drive is like I want.. I get gallons to the mile (And tickets.....haha)
I personally don't like to look at that thing.. as a matter of fact.. I keep the display OFF...
I figure It'll pop-up and tell me when it's thirsty....

i average 23.5mpg but i'm also doing 85-90% highway driving. and i'm always cruising around doing 75-80mph close to 2000rpms. i put the hammer down from time-to-time but i'm not constantly doing that. i'm quite impressed so far with my mileage on this kinda car.

I've had my '11 GT for a month now and driven it about 3,000 miles (couple long road trips!). In mixed driving (probably 2/3 highway, 1/3 city), I'm currently averaging 21.5 MPG overall. Best tank of all was 25.9 going about 80 on the highway using 87 octane. Pretty incredible, IMO, considering that's the same mileage I averaged with my previous car, a 2003 Mazda 6s and it's 212 HP 3.0 V6. 200 more horses and 2 more liters of engine and I get the same mileage.
I don't drive it really hard all the time - I shift around 3,000 during my regular city driving, but I have a lot of fun on open roads too. Also, I haven't seen a noticeable difference in 87 vs. 91 or 93 octane, and I've done city/highway driving with all three different octanes. I'm sure there's a peak performance difference but not enough to make me keep buying premium every time.

I usually shift early, keep the RPMs down, use cruise control, and most importantly..... keep my foot out of the throttle and I have been getting consistently 22-24 combined MPG. I've been on two road trips and each have resulted in 26MPG average. I will say my MPG is hand calculated and documented, and it's roughly 2mpg higher than the BS meter in the dash.

I got 21 1/2 on the freeway during a 300 mile drive the other day. Around town with longish stretches of country roads is 15 to 16. If I get on it, I get absolutely NO GAS MILEAGE AT ALL! NONE!

According to what people post, they are getting 27mpg on the high way, 24, combined, 20 city, etc. According to the computer it says I'm getting 13.4 MPG. You know, the screen that comes up when you keep pressing the info button on the right driver's side. I just put $20 worth of gas 93 octane today and the gas light is on once again. I shift at 3 or 3.5k rpm. How do people get such high miles per gallon from their GT?
It really doesn't bug me that much though- my enjoyment of the car far outweighs what I spend at the gas pump, and I used to drive a GMC dually pick-up, then went to a Chevy quad cab- talk about bad gas mileage- the Stang is amazing compared to those trucks.

Everyone here is being dumb.
You just need to use two automated systems provided by ford to obtain great milage. The rev limiter will let you know the optimum time to shift and the yellow gas light tells you when it's the best time to fill up.
Too easy.
