Ford mykey

Just purchased a 2011 gt/cs and was only given one key. I've noticed the car has restrictions from mykey being previously programmed. The key I have must be a slave key and not an admin key because I don't have options to turn off mykey.

Any ideas or information would be greatly appreciated. Love my race red car and want it to be fully functional!

Just gonna take a shot here. You can stop by your local ACE or True Value Hardware store, and they can cut a key that works like a new one. My local True Value fixed me up for a second key. They ain't cheap, but maybe that's what you need. Hopefully someone smarter than me will come along with some better help. Good luck.

You'll need the admin key or a trip to a Ford dealership so they can reset the MyKey system.

Either way you're probably looking at about an hour's labor.
I'd just have them cut and program a couple extra keys. The car can have as many as four keys programmed to it, I believe.
There's usually no charge to program 2 instead of just 1 new key
The main reason I usually recommend for somebody to have at least 3 keys to their car, is that if you have at least 2 working keys you can program additional keys yourself, using those 2 keys.
So you can buy the key cheaper on eBay, have a local Home Depot or whatever copy an existing key and the programming you can do yourself.
But if you only have one key you need to go see the dealer.

Thanks guys, that is where I an now. Dealer says aftermarket keys won't program, but locksmith thinks he can do it. He is researching and should call me tomorrow. Ford wants $123.00 for three key and $51 to program. Locksmith sent me to remotesremotes.com and replacement fob and key is $15 with programming cost of $65.

Waiting to see how this works out. But thank you for the advice. Extra keys keeps me out of that my key feature. I don't have kids and won't be too many others driving the car.

Who did you buy the car from?

Seems they should do what is needed to sell you a fully functioning car.

Purchased from accelate auto group, Dallas. Took two weeks to get the vehicle to AL. Truck broke in route, 3 days to fix and had a flat after driver got rolling again. Worth the wait though, car was excellent condition. Need tires and a few minor paint imperfections. And that mykey issue I'm still trying to correct.

I guess it isn't worth the drive to Dallas, but might be worth a phone call to see if they can do anything about the missing key

Dealer is trying to contact previous owner to see if they can help. Just paid taxes and registered vehicle yesterday. Going to call locksmith and see what he found out about programming after market key.

Mobile Locksmith

Why not call a mobile Locksmith to cut you a new key? He can erase the keys that are currently stored and program the old and new key, like new. My neighbor had one at her house and I started talking to him about it (I swapped a premium gauge cluster into my 13 base). He wasn't able to program my cluster, but he cut me a third key and didn't charge me anything for it or his failed attempt to program my cluster.

Where are you located? I ended up doing PATS relearn, etc. myself with a $17 adapter from Amazon and some free software (Forscan). I'm not extremely techie and it was very simple. I can give you more info., if you are interested.

I think SPAM LINK has tried your best to resolve the key programming issue.

I bought a fob off ebay. All the numbers matched between the two fobs. Took it to ford for programming. Cost was a little around 200 for everything

To make a new key, Ford dealership is the best option. They can make it without using the vin but if you want to get it done from an SPAM LINK Then VIN number is essential from my point of view.
