I just started my car with a key with no eletronics in it at all. just a plain cut key

 

i just messing around and set the new key as a mykey and it works. so im guessing its did program to the car, but the button part must need programmed some how.

you must be to young to know about carburetors?
anyway theres a piece of metal in the electronics compartment that the car must be programming and reading some how. i may take it out and try it someday and see

I like to keep a none chipped key like a valet key my son could sit & listen to tunes & not start my car , but if i touched a chipped key metal to none chipped key to start it would work until i shut if off, how ever I do not recommend to drive with that key as I'm not sure what could happen should a stall occur & you didn't have the chipped key handy

 

How many keys come with a new Mustang?
