I think you're spot on. This is an emontional issue for some GT folks and it might help selling 2010 cars.

Yes, Chevy has done the same thing for years with the Corvette. That is their flagship sports car, so even when the Camaro or the GTO (R.I.P) shared the same engine, the claimed horsepower numbers were always below the Corvette. Horsepower sells cars as we all know.
