The new 3.7 winds up the tach with a throaty note, far smoother and sexier than anything that ever came out of the Cologne six. It feels plenty strong, too. While the 2011 Mustang has gained about 40 pounds over its predecessor, it still checks in 250-300 pounds less than a Camaro V-6 (the Challenger is even heavier). Too soon to tell whether the Mustang now has the goods to dust off its arch rival (the 250-horse Challenger is a sure thing for third), but it's certainly right there. The Ford's optional 3.31 axle might well ensure that the Camaro runs in the rearview mirror.
Anyone notice how the right-side exhaust tip looks larger than the left-side exhaust tip? Might just be an illusion though. However, I don't see an inner tube inside an outer dress tube like at the auto show. I'm curious to see what the final production exhaust tips looks like.

pretty cool.... almost makes me think i want one..
I noticed the 0-60 times drops 1.5 seconds according to Ford. The outgoing V6 was 6.5-6.6 for 0-60 so 5 seconds flat for the new V6? That's dead even with the old GTs. I know the old GT bashers will roll in but that's a high 13 second car. Bonus, it was nice to see both rear tires going up in smoke! This Stang is going to destroy the Camaro and Challenger!
I wonder if this article was mentioned on Camaro 5? Some of the folks over there are still believe the new V6 weighs 3750 pounds.

I think the era of "good enough" is dead at Ford, being replaced by world class excellence. I'm not sure which will be the more compelling '11 Mustang -- 3.7 or 5.0 -- but I am glad that such a conundrum exists at all.

WOW!!! I just called my Lawyer to tell him to hurry up on my settlement. I have to get my order in for one of these with a automatic and 3.31 rear gear. I wonder if they were running the 2.73 or the 3.31 gear ratio in the video?
thanks so much for posting that! I was getting impatient and thinking about going ahead with a V6 Camaro, now I know I MUST WAIT FOR NEW V6 MUSTANG!
I think that was the new California Special grill on that car? not sure I like it . . . I think I like the old honeycomb style better . . .
Also I think they mentioned that the test car has the V6 Performance Package (not available to the public until Summer) so I think that means it had the 3.31 rear end . . . though I don't see the shock tower brace in the photos, so I'm not sure

I thought the MT article stated that the car he was a passenger in was the standard car but he did say they had a Track Pack car on the track but he didn't actually ride in it. Some of the video is of a car without a passenger but they didn't say which car it was.
2011 might be one of the greatest years for the mustang ever
I'm really excited to see that the 6er isn't being neglected anymore. a 5 second 0-60 in the base model mustang is an awesome thing

That's the Mustang Club of America package for the 2011 V6 which is available in addition to the Pony package. Both the MCA and CS share that same style grill. I watched the NAIA show on NBC yesterday afternoon and saw a car with the usual pony package grill so I'm guessing the mesh grill is still available and probably the norm. I didn't like the billet grill at first but it grew on me after looking at a few 1970 Mustangs. I just wish the lights were further in like those models.
I got the impression this was the MCA car with 3.31s and a manual tranny.
