Does the V6 Mustang Deserve Respect? This 'One Take' Owner Thinks So
#21
From a vehicle stand point, yes. What is it like 83 HP per liter and can get 30 MPG highway while making 305 HP is decently impressive for an engine in a car that averages out in the low 30's MSRP. As a Mustang, probably not. When you think of Mustangs, you think of a V8, same goes for Camaro's, Challenger's, and Charger's. They deserve respect for what they are but as a Mustang, it's debatable and that's coming from someone who heard everything and then some as a V6 owner. It is a low cost sensible option that gets the job done without being excessive and while still being somewhat thrilling.

Amen to that, brother. Your grandma can point a car straight ahead and mash the accelerator to the floor. It takes a lot more than that to go fast in the twisties and the big engine loses its edge there. My S2000 friends have found that they can't get my Mustang out of their rear view mirrors on those roads that are so much fun to drive.
The V6 is a little lighter, but the edge it has there disappears at corner exit, and on the straight. And that's where you pass. Not mid corner, at the exit and after.
Your car keep up with S2000s, but my car overtakes them at road courses.

I have no problems with the V6 mustang. The Ecoboost 4 banger however, will take some time for me to get used to that. Now if were talking about performance, I'll take the 5.0L V8 any day, straight line or road course, no substitute.

You're joking, right? Is that why the Mustangs which compete in racing series like American Iron are all V8s?

On a road, I can see it. Even on a road course where power isn't everything and it comes down to suspension I can see how it can still be fun. Just enough power to give you some nice pull out of the corners and have a little fun.

If you've ever driven a really tight twisty road in something with less power than a GT you would know what a blast it can be using your driving skill to wring every last bit of performance out of the car. There is a stretch of road (the beginnings of Hwy 1) that runs from U.S. 101 just north of Leggett, CA west to the coast before turning south. It is one of those roads and I've driven it in a '98 Jaguar XK8 convertible, a '91 four cylinder Morgan (with less than 100HP), a 2007 Honda S2000 and my '14 V6 Mustang. Every one of the cars was different and every one was a hoot. The speed limit is 50 but you can almost never get going that fast.

If you like the V6, and it makes you giggle when your ripping through the corners, that's all that matters. However, when your pushing the GT V8 through any corner, you realize it takes a lot more driver input to be smooth. They're just two different animals.

Yep, everything happens quicker in a GT.

I get to giggle twice. Once when I am ripping through the twisties in my V6 Mustang and a second time when I think about how much more it cost TheReaper and Cdvision for purchase and ongoing operation of their GTs.

That would not be a problem. On a bright side though once the V8 gets around you you'd be in for some awesome sounds!
This ^ You just hit the nail on the head. On it's own the V6 (or Eco) Mustang is quite respectable. But within the context of the Mustang Family, this is the slowest, lowest power and lowest cost car.

i got my 2014 v6 for $25000 with 6000KMs, i could of got a 2014 V8 in a nice blue for $35000. for a car that is the same and only slightly faster, it wasn't worth it.

For the price I love my v6 1. I'm not paying big v-8 insurance for my mustang, 2.It has plenty of horse power for most cars (its on the plus side of impressive) 3. Remember the original mustang was designed to be a cheap and affordable solution to a sports car, and I think the v6 captures that thinking sure I could go out and buy a v8 just to say I have a big o five oh but honestly its a muscle car its meant to be quick not fast your can race it on a track all you want but your only going to see me at the strip.

I paid $25000 for my 14 GT brand new before TTL. As far as "slightly faster, if you consider a second and 10 mph in the 1/4 slight.....

I do love the V-6 justification threads, it always reminds me of the little brother who is trying to grab the basketball that big brother is holding just out of reach.
