I think that would be a good idea.

If by "bit" you mean "a lot" then yes, I agree

I don't think they need it yet, let chevy make the next show-car circuit move for now. Is there an existing photo of a Camaro mule yet that's not a holden comodore?

Here's another "According to a guy that works at... ." quote: the Camaro won't be out till November 2008 (4 years after the Mustang reinvented desire in the pony car market) and the next Challenger will go for about $40K. Seems Chrysler will give up the V6 market to Ford and GM. When GM b****es about products and time to market - they have no one to blame but the bean counters. Ture car guys would have had had something ready by now.

I disagree with having the Next Stang at the same show as the Bullit. While the Bullit isn't the flashiest 'Stang, the last thing you want is to drown its coverage. Besides, the F-150, NA Verve, and possibly some Euro imports are probably going to be there already, so the "New Stuff" stand will have meat already. Keep the Next 'Stang for another Show (Chicago, New York, etc)

Isn't the Bullitt due at LA in November?

Yeah, don't think it would be detroit.

Detroit would be the new stang

I agree it would be great to steel the thunder..and it is a risk....
but... if the Camaro concept and production are SO close... (with the minor changes to it for production) I think the stang would make a greater impact, as we've already seen the camaro 2 years ago!!!

The Bullitt is supposed to be at the LA Show but I agree. Hopefully they might have a 2009 Boss Mustang there.

i just read from GuionM over at z28 forums about the autoshow season.
Looks like the F150, MKS, Mustang variant (boss probably) and maybe a slightly revised Fusion and some other stuff.

GM will NOT have the production Camaro there..so YET again... there will be a concept (probably SS or Z28) of the car.
that is unbelievable...to have 3 autoshow seasons of CONCEPT variants before even showing with that production car in its final form.

I can understand telling people its coming back..but 3 years will make it long in the tooth before it even hits the lots!

The sad thing is that the auto press will fawn all over yet another concept and declare the Mustang "in trouble" yet again. For the thrid auto show season in a rowImagine if Ford had shown the 05 concept for that long, people would say Ford had lost its flippin' mind!

Well that's because GM quickly put a show car with NO PLAN whatsoever on how to make it a production car. The S197 started around 99 and was well underway by 02.

And the reason why GM threw out the Camaro concept so early was to try to get customers to not buy a S197 Mustang and wait for the Camaro. It's a common marketing technique that many companies try to use against a competitor that has a leg up on them.

Right now Ford has no reason in the world to show us the next generation Mustang concept. Showing it too early would both hurt Mustang sales today and leave Ford without a means to lessen the impact of the production Camaro & Challenger.

The time to show the next generation Mustang concept is when the production Camaro hits the dealer showrooms.

That's a good point, but I'm impatient.

If they want, Ford can just show ME what the 2009/2010 Mustang looks like. I won't tell a soul. Honest guv.

The only problem is when half of the features will change dramatically to meet production/safety standards; having the show car strutted around to no end for 3 or more years may make the new car a disappointment. Now they pretty much HAVE to figure out how to make it work. This happened with the SSR and it became such a giant truck they had to make the seats way oversized just to try to keep the proportions kinda-sorta correct. The 03 Mustang show car was put together after the production version was in the final stages of getting its final look.

I have a couple friends that work at Ford that have seen the 2009/2010.
I wish I was so lucky. I want to know if its worth the wait?

I'm sure if I was in their position, I'd struggle to keep that a secret. Still, perhaps the threat of losing their jobs focuses the mind
