It doesn't really matter what we expect. What matters is what we are going to get, and we are just going to have to wait a little longer to find out.

Just sayin... it may be 405...
no one knows until a production engine gets on the dyno in a customers hands.

It's just funny to watch over the years how people were:
"No way it'll have 400hp, 360 tops"
to
"400 isn't enough...it should have at least 425... or 450"
hahaha

It should have

Ford's only answer to the LSx motors was to strap a blower on the 4.6/5.4.

you bastard max!

but whats wrong with FI? no one complains when imports turbo everything, if Ford had to supercharge those motore to get the performance they wanted so be it. I see no problem...

I'm thinking that it will have 430hp. Just over the Camaro SS's output just like they did with the V6.

Which LSx?

If you raised the GT500 motor to 10:1 compression N/A like most LS motors, it would compete with the LS1, LS2, LS3, and LS6. Blower needed to mess with LS7. Don't forget the 2000 Cobra R N/A 5.4L which had 385HP. It had nothing close to Ford GT heads like the GT500 and that was 10 years ago.

Stock, no way. Unless it revs to 8,000 RPM. HP = torque*rpm/5252. Do some math and you'll realize how improbable it is. All the 90HP/liter engines out there, including exotics like Porsche etc either have RPM or boost. 5.0L is a small engine and I don't think it will be beat the LS3 in stock configuration.

Now, when the tunes come out, I bet the first thing they will do is raise the rev limiter 500 RPM. So let's say the 5.0L has a redline of 7k, I bet it will rev to 7.5. That's where you'll get the higher peak number. However long term durability and everything else is out the window. Ford sets it RPM max for a reason.

So the 12 cylinder engine Lambo had 25 years ago that was 5L and 400+ hp at 7K rpm doesn't count?

No, since we are talking 2011 and modern emissions and durability requirements. Ford puts a 5 year / 60k warranty on their powertrains. You don't run a motor to its ragged edge like an 80's lambo if you want to do this. Nice comparison, you really reached, lol.

God almighty I was thinking the same thing!

I am really praying for 400 hp. This whole V6 thing really has some of the Gm faithful grasping at straws and if Ford comes through with a stout Coyote engine some may jump off of a tall building.

400hp is very possible with a 7,000 rpm redline, but the torque will be lower (maybe 360-380 lb ft at the very most).
