Indeed, there are some cars with later VINs that were built before mine. In my experience it basically goes: Dealer puts it in the system which takes a completely random amount of time. A good dealer will have it in the system the same day you order it. My dealer gave me the Vehicle Order Confirmation which showed quite plainly that they put it in the system and what they ordered as options.

There's also a DORA (I don't remember what it stands for) that is sent to the dealer from Ford confirming that they've received the order and that it's in their system for processing. This happens every weekday, so if you order on Saturday it's not acknowledged as being a valid order until Monday (this is why my statuses show that the order was made on 4/19, but Order Confirmation print out is 4/17).

On Wednesday/Thursday, Ford runs the batch job to generate another week of production, which happens 2-3 weeks before the build week. It does not pull every order, and checks things like allocation, region, priority, and component availability. Region is important, as Ford tends to build a swath of cars for a particular region, so they can fill a train of them. Coffeejolts and I live in the same area and though our cars were ordered a week apart ended up sharing the same build day and had VINs only 5 apart.

Presumably it generates a VIN for you if it pulls your order, but if there is a component shortage it puts you on hold and does not give you a build date until the next time allocation is pulled for that dealer. Typically you'll get a VIN and a build date at the same time, but it's not guaranteed. Once it has a build day, the dealership has to call in and get Ford approval to make changes to an order (this is usually not a problem).

After a build date is given, a sticker will be generated within about a week of the actual build day. No exact time frame, but a few days before the car is built.

Once the car physically exists, it'll have the sticker on the inventory site as well as the direct services site. Then all it has to do is get past quality checks and find a train/truck and be shipped. Depending on how that goes it can take anywhere from 2 days to 3 months for the car to go from being built to being delivered at the dealership. For my car, I waited longer for delivery than I did for it to be built. My total wait time was 10 weeks.

Nah, he'll say, "I bailed on it because I didn't like the floor mats."

Let's see. You ordered in early June, and expect your car in early Aug. I ordered in early July, so I guess I can expect in early Sept.

Don't know how I can wait two more months. Ugh.

Well, it depends on your dealer's allocation. If your dealer has it allocated you might get your build date sooner or if they don't have allocation it might take longer.

my Kona 5.0 arrived today
salesman called at around 11am to say either today or tomorrow, it showed a shipping status from the Jessup, MD railyard
called me back around 4:30pm, it had arrived

great news but...
i'm sitting in a beachfront condo in Myrtle Beach, SC
i had a feeling it would go like this when we left Sunday morning

will be picking it up Monday the 19th
he said they will clean it up, no front tag bracket installation and the car will be placed in their shop shed, which is a holding place for certain cars to be picked up at a later date

i'm sure some are still waiting for their cars ordered and built earlier
mine was ordered 3/30, built 5/04, arrived 7/12, but not quite yet delivered

I saw pics of other red candy mustangs on this site and makes me glad I picked that color. I can't wait to see it with the glass roof and coupe package.
I haven't driven a standard in 5 years since my 2003 Mustang GT convertible. I'm kind of worried about stalling in front of the dealership. I know its like riding a bike, but I hate to stall in front of everybody.
I worried about stalling, too. It was a total non-issue. Just take it really slow [really slow] and you will be fine.

Despite driving manuals most of my life, when I first got in and went to start mine, I think I was in rental mode. I tried to start it the first time without pushing in the clutch. Really made me feel like a dumb***.

Don't feel bad. I hadn't driven a stick in five years, and I revved too high a couple times on my first test drive. The sales guy didn't care. On my second ride, I did a lot better, and downshifted to second from third to feel the acceleration a couple times, even though we were in city streets.

Hmm, I went to check my window sticker to see if it was online yet.. and I'm getting a different message than I have been. This one just says "The VIN entered was not found in our system." The message before that said a lot more.
