Either from your dealer or Ford CS.... but you won't get one until your car is scheduled to be built.

Yeah, initially in early April. Dealer wouldn't let me change it to a 5.0 so I cancelled and re-ordered with another dealer.

Also, see my sig.

I am going to bug the GM about it by the end of today.

Has anyone else had experience picking up your car from the railyard or the dealer doing it? I am still in disbelief it takes over a week for a car to travel 45 minutes.

Don't you work for the federal government (as a contractor?) You should be capable of believing in any amount of incompetence and ineptitude.

That is the right VIN number

I confirmed the number with my dealer today and that is correct. Thanks for helping out. I still can't pull up the sticker for it yet. The eta is 8/11/10. This would push it to a 3 month waiting period, which is not as bad as some. I can't stop of thinking about this car. I saw pics of other red candy mustangs on this site and makes me glad I picked that color. I can't wait to see it with the glass roof and coupe package.
I haven't driven a standard in 5 years since my 2003 Mustang GT convertible. I'm kind of worried about stalling in front of the dealership. I know its like riding a bike, but I hate to stall in front of everybody.

The biggest difference I noticed between my 03 and the 11 was the clutch is way lighter than you would expect. Other than that, if you're not putting it in reverse, it's just smooooth shifting

Hey Christie who gave you your build date? The dealer or Ford customer service?

Ford CS would not tell me, my dealer called me and gave me the build date. Ford CS would give me the ETA however. Kind of weird.

Are VIN numbers suppose to be in a sequential order, so how come I ordered(talked to salesperson) my Mustang on 5/12 and have a VIN number after people who ordered theirs after me? Or does it take about a two week process to get your car on ordered once you talk to the salesperson.

Lots of things can affect your VIN sequence. My understanding goes like this:

First the dealer has to place the order (not just write it down). Mine took 10 days to do it. It is unclear why except to assume they're slackers. Ford accepts orders one day a week (believe it's Wednesday or Thursday). It's checked against any commodity holds before it's accepted. Dealer allocation also plays a role. The vehicle order processing center in Dearborn has to accept it. Then it's off to AAI where it gets the VIN and blend (although the actual VIN and blend may be at VOPC but I'm not sure.) The blend has impact on the actual build date. Once you have a VIN, the car is built about a week later. After that the car may go through the Vehicle Personalization Center (stripes, scoops, etc.) and then back to the Ramp for quality inspections and/or final shipping. From there if your dealer is within 250 miles, it gets loaded on a truck. Otherwise, it's loaded onto a rail car and shipped via train to within 250 miles of your dealer. Once there (another Ramp), it gets offloaded from the train and onto a truck for delivery to your dealer. This process can take days or weeks depending on availability of trucks, drivers, and number of cars going to each area dealer.

I appreciate the help and understanding of the process. Makes me feel better. I kind of assumed that the ordering process could be done quicker, but I take the 6-8 weeks delivery time is based off when they actually ordered the mustang not when I go in and talk to the salesperson. It will be worth it when I get the car.

I believe the VIN can be issued long before the car is built. It's the window sticker that becomes available the week before the car is built. Also, to be explicit, the cars are NOT built in VIN order.
