August 2010 Mustang Sales Figures.

Congrats to the Camaro. I honestly thought the Stang would be pulling away at this point. I'd wait a few more months before written off the Stang for the sales title.
Positive spin, Ford should feel pressure to keep improving the Stang and offer discounts.

It would be interesting to look at the demographics of who is buying those Camaros, Challengers, and Mustangs.
I personally don't care if one outsold the other. It will not make it any better of a car. I like the nice long term trend the mustang has had. It's been here since the sixties, and it still keeps me coming back.
But...I really do like the looks of the Challenger.

You know, we praise Ford on one hand for not having to file banko and suck off the taxpayer. But that doesn't mean they have any room to screw up on wasted labor costs/shifts. Whereas GM got off pretty much scott free with their debt wiped clean and the government backing their payroll.
Plus, there was enough changes to the 11 that its dang near a new release and that always adds delays. Would you rather Ford hire extra shifts in this low sales environment, and/or rush them out the door so they can have massive recalls like Toy, GM, Kia....??
Plus there were massive banko's of suppliers so don't you think that altered the landscape a bit?
When I custom ordered my Bullitt I was prepared for 3-4 months. But they had it delivered within 60 days. So lengthy deliveries is NOT typical nor is it "par for the course".
Be patient for your custom built hot rod or go buy one off a lot. But I support Ford management's efforts to produce great cars and fair prices - and stay profitable.

Me
I don't think any car has ever looked more like a driving boat than that thing. And not just the size of it -- how high the nose is, everything about it scream boat.
Just look how natural it looks in the water:
Now... back to the topic at hand.
It is interesting, because I am seeing more and more Camaros around here than new Mustangs. And, I am a bit surprised by that. I thought the Camaro would get a big surge when it first came out, than die off very quickly once people sat inside one .
Perhaps everyone is used to Mustangs, and like how the Camaro is "new" and "different" more than I thought. Perhaps GM is really offering great financing. Perhaps no one is reading magazines.
I hope this brings a resurgence in sporty car manufacturing though. And, if so, that will be good news for everyone!
