Interesting.
As always thanks for the info!

Edit:
So apparently.

April09-Aug09 = 37118 Sales
April10-Aug10 = 37403 Sales

+285 sales over last year this time.

I bet the 2011's sales wont be what everyone thinks...

All the talk from why sales were down (as compared to 09) was that people weren't buying a 2010 cuz 'everyone is waiting for the 2011...'

So why aren't the 2011's trouncing the 10's?

Surprisingly, railcar shipments show steady gains over 09. Yet only Chrysler showed sales gains for August. Everyone else is pretty dismal.

Wednesday, August 25, 2010, 8:00 PM Ted Sickinger, The Oregonian

While a general economic recovery is still missing in action, one of Portland's mainstay industrial employers is seeing a spike in orders that will drive new jobs after a two-year slump.

The Greenbrier Cos. said Wednesday that it will add 260 workers at its Gunderson manufacturing facility north of the Fremont Bridge in Portland to support $130 million worth of orders for new railcars.

Greenbrier, headquartered in Lake Oswego, will also shift 175 workers at Gunderson to railcar construction from marine barge manufacturing, a business segment that the company says continues to weaken.

The railcar orders consist of more than 1,000 new double-stack intermodal platforms -- its first such order in more than two years -- as well as 700 new covered hopper cars.

Workers at Gunderson and other Greenbrier yards will also modify another 1,100 double-stack platforms, lengthening them to 53 feet from shorter dimensions, which allows shippers to increase cargo volumes and better compete with truckers for freight traffic.

Mustang has competition now. It aint the only pony in the stable anymore.
Plus the economy still sucks and people are spending money on more important things like food and a roof over their head. Even though i have the '11 i can not do the mods i want right now because the money is tight. When i had my mo 08 i had wheels/tires, tune/cai and several exterior mods the first year. Do not have that luxury right now.

The car buying economy is FAR better than it was a year ago tho... So I don't view that as the concrete reason. The link below is July's numbers for collective purchases. And the ones at the head with the biggest amount of volume improvement sold are the likes of Cadillac, Acura, Porsche... all cars that are in the more expensive tier. While the Toyota and Honda alike are near the bottom (tho granted still out number the expensive makes, which obviously makes sense.). So there's money to spread.

Autoblog should have August's up in a few days.

Oddly enough, I have seen more 2011-11 Camaros in the past week than I ever have, probably 7-10. In that space of time, I have seen exactly one other 2010-11 Mustang (two if you count mine).

Where I live, the 2010-11 Stang is a rare car but I guess they must be plentiful somewhere.

Dead heat in July, less than 1,000 less in August. May and June looks like it was the pent up demand that came through as a result of the '11 breaking cover. I for one would be looking into an '11 if the $ situation was better but I'm way off that mark and don't expect it to change anytime soon. If there are enough like me then theres probably a lot of desire but just cannot pull the trigger. Camaro folks I think are still flushing out. They've had a long time to save their money. Its the first year release of the car so sales were bound to be at its height. I stood by a prediction of 60,000 units and I got whooped, the number comes in just north of 90,000 units its first year. By contrast I believe the 2005 Mustang which would be a good comparison since that was the S197s first year came in somewhere around 160,000. If you think about how many people are driving a S197 that is 5 or less years old (probably not paid off) you start to realize that there may be more Mustangers on the sidelines still right now.

I look at three things:

1.) The economy is bad.

2.) The Camaro is still new. There are a lot of GM/Camaro loyalist out there.

3.) Ford has sold a ton of Mustangs since 2005! Those cars are still nice, most are warm weather or weekend cars. Majority of people aren't ready to trade them in.

It's just numbers, the competition is out there, and we're all benefiting from it. In a way like stated above, that will keeep Ford from sitting on it's Laurels.
