Anyone else like me still not liking the S550 design?

So is Ford. They've committed to a Level IV autonomous vehicle for urban ride sharing environments by 2021. However, I have a hard time imagining being able to drive our own cars ever going away. The best of both worlds is more likely - drive when you want, let the car do it when you don't.
Now I just found out on the local news that Uber along with 5 other companies are looking into building flying cars.. Heck this seems more like Sci-Fi than reality or something from the friggin Jetsons for God sake..
I can just picture it now and before you know it, we'll be quoting " Jane ! stop this crazy thing "
I can see a time when you cannot get insured to drive your own car
That's how it will happen. It won't be done in by law but by a technicality due to an external force.
That's how we lose all of our rights. Unintended consequences. And when it comes to vehicles in the next 10-20 years there's gonna be a lot of those.

Flying cars can be made to work, but they're a long way from being practical. There are too many differing requirements between aircraft and cars; things that are good for cars are bad for aircraft and vice versa. All the necessary design compromises result in something that isn't very good as a car or an airplane.

For the most part Sarge, I was just being sarcastic lol. However the same was also said about driver less cars being a long way from becoming practical as well

On the original topic of this thread I have to say I like the 550 body including the 2018 version very much. It took me a while to appreciate it but now my 197 looks a little bulky to my eye, a little thick through the middle.......like me.

I'm still "trying" to like the 2018. On some cars it looks good. On some,...not so much. lol

I find that a bit hard to believe, being as the S550 is slightly wider over the S197

My impression that the 197 looks fatter than the 550 may be due to seeing mostly dark color 550's contrasted to my yellow 197. Ever hear your wife say dark colors make a woman look slimmer?

I always thought it was pretty cool and they're undoubtedly nice cars with tons of modding potential...but the 2010-2014 styles were much more to my taste. The late S197s looked better and seemed more on-target with the design intentions. While they still had ye olde fashioned solid rear axle and the lower output motor, they were still quicker...making the S550 unappealing on most levels. After driving the new Camaro SS back to back with the S550, I realized how much of a slug the S550 really was.
Plus, there was just something about the front clip of the 2015 style that just bothered me. I liked it from some angles and hated it from others.
With the 2018 refresh, things may be different! The body updates go a long way to fixing the looks for me.... Honestly, I like the new one almost as much as the 2010 style.
The new higher compression Coyote means a HP bump which might bring the acceleration back up to S197/Camaro SS levels. Add in the more performance oriented option packages...we may have a deal.

Patrick ! I really don't consider just 1/8-1/4 inch as a lot slimmer and lower as far as height difference over the S197 is concerned.. It's the width that gives the appearance of looking bulky IMO.. On the other hand, the trunk height being lower by 4" over the 10-14 cars would have a significant difference and look much less bulky..

I've driven a few S550's now, and I'm glad to get back in my S197 afterwards. Quicker, more visceral and more fun. The S197 is definitely more of a driver's car. It take more effort to drive it at the edge, but it is rewarding as **** when you get it right.
Though I wish I could bring the S550 interior with me into my S197.

Did your 2007 have the stock springs and suspension ? As I find it very difficult to believe that even a non track pack/non Brembo 2011-14 would sit lower in the rear over the earlier 2005-09 S197 cars
