Airbags and Booster Seats

Tomorrow morning, I take delivery of my 2012 GT. I'd like to allow my 6 year-old, who is still in a booster seat to ride in the front.

According to the dealer, the limit for the airbag sensor is 45 lbs, which my son beats. I assume with a sensor, there's no way to turn the airbag off.

If I move the passenger seat all the way to the back, will there be enough clearance that the airbag will not be dangerous to him? The dealer had no idea if the distance is enough.

Also, does anyone know of a place that sells seat protectors that fit my car to go under the booster seat?

Not safe. Don't risk your sons life just to ride in the front. You only get one original, don't risk it.

You need to be 12 y/o to legally ride up front here. My 4 y/o gets plenty of a thrill just riding in the back, he loves it.

If he's having that much fun in the backseat, Imagine how much fun he'll have when he's 16. LOL

This ^^^^^, he should be riding in the backseat end of discussion.
Better be safe than sorry, he'll grow fast i'm sure, take my son for instance, he just turned 12 on Oct 19th, he's 5`8" and weights 128 lbs. That is scary !

Wow, way before I was 12 there's no way I could still fit in the back seat of a 05-12 Mustang, maybe behind the passenger seat if it was all the way forward...

Thanks for the replies, everyone. Back seat it is. He's a tall kid, but will still fit in the back seat.

I'm 6'3" and could fit in the back seat for a little while if it weren't for the roof slope.

Very good decision, Radiofr33Europe. My six yr. old Grandson rides in the back as well, and thoroughly enjoys his junkets in the GT500. You can find a seat protector for the car seat at any store that carries car seats, etc. Mostly kid related stores. They are usually heavy plastic/nylon (kind of like a thin outside chair pad) and protect your seat bottom from any rubbing damage. Mine is made by Eddie Bauer. Works great and no damage. Enjoy!
