They probably have just figured out how to make the parts cheaper or are changing suppliers, cutting costs to appease the bean counters.

Just out of curiousity, can you go into detail as to how you found these. If you don't want to post publicly, shoot me a PM. Just interested in this.

I don't know if this is how RedCandy5.0 found the 8/16/2010 powertrain changes (although he did reference fordparts.com), I went to that site and performed a cursory review of the engine parts and saw some of what he listed. Anyone can go to this website and perform parts searches. Below are two screenshots (you may have to click the full size image to read them clearly).

Really can't tell if the differences are due to better parts or just different suppliers or whether they have any affect on performance, quality or reliability. It could just be that Ford found a better way to make them at reduced cost? No way to say, really. Still, we can tell from this that Job 2 will have a fair amount of changes in the 2011's. How significant they are to the customer is hard to tell.

Thanks Mike. I hadn't had time to look in detail, so seeing that first hand from someone who did it helps.

Wondering why part #6007 is quite a bit more than 6006 or 6009.

As far as I can tell from the illustrations, #6007 is the fully dressed engine, #6006 is the long block minus intake, #6009 is the short block (without heads).
When navigating the site, click on "view image" to see details of what's included

They may go from modular engines back to the good old pushrod engine. Then we'd have low end grunt.

Wow, I had a couple of brain farts earlier. Disregard my last post about what was included. It was early and I didn't have my coffee yet. I can use that system, just chose not to.

There is a differentiation for the complete engine assembly, but not for the short block.

Also differentiated for Job 2
Head assy (with valves, less cams)
Camshaft timing gears (Int./Ex.) (Cams aren't changed)
Vapor canister
Steering wheel airbag clock spring
Headlight wiring harness (again, all)
Various wiring harnesses
Fuse box mount bracket
Base model radio
Back up lamp switch (man. trans.)
Accessory belt tensioner
Engine coolant overflow hose
ABS control module
Brake master cylinder
LF and RF brake hoses
Illuminated door sill plates ("Mustang" only)
Door latch striker plate (again)
Brake pedal assy (man and auto)
Dash pad
Steering rack
Manual transmission (no details on which internals were changed)

There were also changes to:
The piston cooling nozzles as of April 9th.
The H-pipe changed May 10th.
The PCM as of mid-April (some ambiguity here)
Headlight wiring harness on May 10th (w halogens)
Headlight wiring harness on April 19th (w HIDs)
Positive battery cable on April 29th
Door interior trim panel (the hard plastic one) on Aug. 3rd
Door latch striker plate on Aug. 3rd
I've been digging into the parts site again, and have found the following additional Job 2 changes.

Engine air box (filter housing)
Engine air box hose (to engine)
Fuel tank sending unit and harness (coupe and convertible)
Fuel feed hose (tank to engine)
Door sill plate (various versions, coupe and convertible)
Interior trunk mat (coupe)

Interesting read...and it"ll likely be years before we discern the upgrade job2 mods from the cost saving job2 mods...I had a '94 GT that had a felt like liner at the bottom of the small door pocket and a '95 GT that didn't...functional rear cooling ducts '95 to fake vents '96...many mods never make the brochure

Bump - I've been updating the list of production changes that have occurred throughout the 2011 model year.
This is NOT the definitive list.
