The 2011 V6 is going to kick the 2005-10 GT's butt!

Yeah, I don't really think a 2011 V6 will beat a 2010 GT. Not with 3.73 gears.
I guess like others have pointed out that, that we'll just have to wait untill the spring to find out.
I would invite any 2011 V6ers to come down and we'll see who's faster, but by the time you get your 3.7, I should have my 5.0! lol

I like the new 3.7, it's the rest of the car I have a problem with. I wish that Ford just replaced the 4.0 with the 3.7 and left the rest alone, at least the base model.
My '06 V6 Conv. weighed 3384 lbs, (3.31 was standard), if they replaced the engine only it'd be close to 3300 lbs and that would make a nice car.
Instead they managed to make it even heavier which will cancel out a lot of the extra new power

the coupe is 3350, the vert only adds 34 lbs?
i show a weight of 3477 for the vert, which is a hell of a lot closer to what verts usually add.

especially with the auto it would be heavier.
http://www.internetautoguide.com/car...312/index.html
" Weights: curb weight (lbs) 3,477"
and thats the lightest form with the t5 manual trans.
my 2005 base no options (no abs, no traction control, no leather, no power seats) coupe manual trans is as light as they come. and it was was 3351.

EDIT: ok it was my 08 but better still, lease every couple of years. looks like maybe it got lighter after 06?

Lets see, the transmission, driveshaft, rear end, suspension, exhaust, brakes & chassis stiffening(conv) ALL HEAVIER
The extra gear is canceled out by the 2.73 rear, unless you get to opt one, and you don't need a dual exhaust just a diff muffler. The 2.5" pipes are more than enough they just put a restrictive muffler on the 05-10 w a 1.75" inner diameter.

This is an apples to oranges comparison. I expect the Mustang V6 to beat down the Camaro V6 just as bad as the old GTs. The Mustang has the strong engine, weighs 300 pounds less, and has better gearing with 3.31 gears after you factor in the Camaro's 28 inch tall tires.

Gears are not magic but the should give you 3 tenths in the quarter. What would you run at the track? 3.31s or 4.10s?

Well, I've run the 2011 V6's figures through my performance analyser software. I've inputed settings for the V6 with 3.31 gears and 2.73 gears. Note, the analyser is set up to reflect the settings of my own 2005 GT. So, the stats include the weight/size of a set of 20" wheels, and the lowering of my own vehicle. The weight stats are exactly the same in all tests... all I have changed is the engine details and the gearing to arrive at these results. So, if all three cars were EXACTLY the same weight with EXACTLY the same suspension lowering and using EXACTLY the same wheels. The difference in performance would be as follows. Starting with the fastest...
Wait for it...
Fastest car is the 2011 Ford Mustang V6 with 3.31 gears!
0 to 60 mph: 5.2 seconds
0 to 100 mph: 13.0 seconds
Qrtr: 13.9 @ 103.1 mph
Top Speed: 152 mph
2nd place? 2005 Ford Mustang GT V8 with 3.55 gears...
0 to 60 mph: 5.3 seconds
0 to 100 mph: 13.1 seconds
Qrtr: 13.9 @ 103.0 mph
Top Speed: 145 mph
3rd place... 2011 Ford Mustang V6 with 2.73 gears...
0 to 60 mph: 5.7 seconds
0 to 100 mph: 13.8 seconds
Qrtr: 14.2 @ 101.4 mph
Top Speed: 152 mph
So there you have it, if everything was like for like between and '05 GT and an '11 V6 with 3.31 gears. The V6 is the quicker car. But it's only just quicker. In fact the difference is so little that there would be nothing in it.
BUT... is the V6 going to be lighter than the 2005 GT V8? I don't think it will be much lighter, if at all lighter. It will be lighter than a 2010 V8 GT I think. But still the difference is not that great.
With 3.31 gears, the new V6 basically offers old GT V8 performance with 2 less cylinders and an extra 5 MPG or so on a cruise.
Any side by side race will be down to the driver.
Of course, the new 2011 5.0 V8 GT is a different kettle of fish. That will be much faster than the new 2011 V6!
Cheers
