Yep!
Awesome video, great narration by the driver . . . gotta love the result too.
Like the other guys already said, a few relatively straightforward mods and the Mustang would be winning the race for sure, with at least $20K to spare.

I forgot to add but I know I will get some blow back from this. Let's also take into account that the Mustang is still getting 6 mpg better and no gas guzzler tax!

Just think that was the loaded up GT 5.0 versus the Competition Package M3.
They should of compared the 2011 GT 5.0 to the regular M3, as the regular M3 is still $25-30k more.
In that case the 2011 GT would of beat the M3 even worse in all the acceleration and handling tests, and instead of losing by a 1 foot eye blink margin of .09 seconds at the track the GT would of won.
What ticked me off is, when I read the article and watched the video earlier today, I noticed that Motor Trend says, "to us even .09 seconds is a win, and win is a win, so the BMW won this test."
But then in the braking test the 2011 GT with Brembo brakes stopped 2 feet shorter and Motor Trend says, "to us that is a tie."
WTF???
So when the BMW wins by an eye blink 1 foot it's a win, but when the Mustang GT wins by twice that amount in another test, it's a tie!!!
And let's be honest, 99.5% of the people who buy these cars will not push them like a pro driver on a race track, much less even TAKE them on a race track. But many, many more will drag them, brake them hard, and push them around canyons and so forth. So where it really counts to the average and above average driver the 2011 Mustang GT beats the top of the line, best handling, fastest, competition package equipped M3 ever made.
And to take it one step further, there will probably be around 5-8% of new M3's bought with the Competition Package. But there is probably 20% of 2011 Mustang GT's sold with the Brembo brake package.
So WAY more often than not, with the VAST majority of owners, in the VAST majority of places, the 2011 Mustang GT will take out the M3, even if that M3 has the competition package.

yea quite the discussion......lot of pissing wars etc....This new 5.0 has certainly stirred the bee's up on the GM side...and now this M3 comparison just adds more fuel..a few of them are asking why the camaro wasnt put in this challenge cause they think it is faster than the new Mustang.

Upsizing the rear brakes will not do anything for the brake dive. That's all weight transfer. And while the break dive might suck on a road course, the same weight transfer enables superior launches at the drag strip.
This is a fantastic result for the mustang. Until this year, I would have *never* believed the Mustang and the M3 would be anywhere close to the same. However, I will say this: although all of the quantitative results are very impressive, its the qualitative observations that would lead me to choose to the M3 over the GT. However, I cannot afford an M3, so I choose the GT anyway.
One thing confused me thought: the driver cited difficulty with the transmission, so he opted to leave the transmission in 3rd gear. Now I don't know how many turns would have benefited from downshifting to 2nd(the M3 has more rpms to play with than the GT), but I would have to assume that actually using 2nd would have more than made up for that 0.09 seconds.

And the best part was this is a Competition package M3 too! Can't say enough good things about this 5.0 baby!
Based on the data I'm calling these two cars dead even in performance. I'll say it again the BOSS will lay waste to an M3

His big problem was shock response, a set of good shocks on there and the Mustang probably would have been significantly faster than the bimmer and probably would have helped the brake dive some too.

If you really want to stir the pot over on the cumaro site then someone who has good video editing software should edit that video of Randy's comments and make it a loop so it plays over and over when you click on it. In the loop video you include the part where the driver says "Best Handling Mustang Ever" and then the part where he says "Better Balanced than the cumaro" and then the part where he says the "Mustang Will DESTROY the cumaro". Maybe even take that last quote and put it on the video before and after each of the other comments. The sh*t would sure hit the fan then!
