I want a gloss rad cover too but I doubt if I can do it as well as some of the aftermarket ones. I think JLT looks the best, and it's not a re-paint but rather a redesigned cover....a bit pricey though I think it might be worth it.

There is a small learning curve to wrapping and plenty of patience to be had. I just did stripes and they came out well with the 3M 1080 matte black wrap. I used knifeless tape to make the stripes because I put down a 2 foot wide piece of vinyl so i wouldn't have to worry about keeping individual stripes straight. Laying the knifeless tape down straight was the easier way to do it and then you just pull it up to cut your stripes out once the entire piece of vinyl is smoothed down to the car.
If you just want to do the hood and roof, they shouldn't be too difficult. The 3M 1080 series wraps are fairly forgiving with patience and a heat gun (just be careful you don't stretch too much with the heat gun). There's a 30% give to the material and it has air channels so if a pocket of air gets stuck, just patiently tap down on the vinyl with your finger and it will come out. If the vinyl folds on itself, you either have to pull back up and really smooth it out or you're screwed in that case. If you're wrapping an entire hood or roof, knifeless tape won't be necessary, just lay it down well and trim the excess but leave a bit to tuck into the gaps or fold around the edges.
I would suggest picking up a few smaller pieces off of amazon or something and wrapping some smaller parts with varying amounts of curves and holes to find out what works and doesn't. If you want to have a whole car wrapped like that beautiful varichrome 'stang, you'll probably want to have a professional do it cause it will take forever and probably not come out the way you want. Individual parts aren't too bad. I wrapped the interior dash panels of my car with the 3M 1080 carbon fiber as well and it was a good way to learn for doing my stripes and still looks good.

Pretty easy actually to wrap them too. As usual, just take your time. I cut out a rectangle of the wrap bigger than the trim piece and covered the front face of it first. Then i cut a slit in down the middle where the gap is but leaving room to tuck it in around the edges. For the flatter sides, I just folded over the edge and then I had to take my time really conforming to the curved edge but with a little heat and extra material, it works. You can cut little relief slits along the edge of the vinyl before you tuck it around the thin back edge of the trim. This alleviates some of the strain on the material. Just don't cut the slits all the way to the trim piece or you'll see gaps where the original finish shows through. Once the trim is back on the steering wheel, any pieces you folded around the back edges are hidden by being flush with the steering wheel or controls again. Hope this helps

Something a little different.
Yesterday before my Mustang Club meeting I headed over to the Rockaway Mall near my home to watch the 29th Annual running of Gooch's Garlic Run. It was started by the The Blue Knights police M/C club as a charity event with just 50 bikes years ago. They'd make a run to Little Italy in NYC, and money collected went to selected children with debilitating diseases.
Yesterday's event was a sea of chrome and shiny paint in the staging areas....it run drew 2000 bikes of all makes and sizes. The NJ State Police block off all entrances to Rt 80 as the riders travel east bound.
They begin staging at the mall by noon with vendors and concessions, all of who donate proceeds to the selected charity. It's an amazing sight and they draw huge crowds at the mall, on Rt 80, and bridges over looking the highway. Traffic comes to a standstill here.
I'm not into the bike thing except to admire them immensely, and that's a good thing. I went broke just ogling them. We Mustang'ers have nothing on these guys in terms of mods and money spent.

I didn't watch them from a bridge like I've done in years past. That's when it really roars. It's jaw dropping watching and hearing 2000 bikes rumble under your feet.
