I have read that base mustangs that were used as fleet cars such as rental cars could have been bought with a fleet only option called 18R "ornamentation package". The option consisted of a leather steering wheel with audio controls and an automatic transmission leather shifter handle. I found a 2011 base v6 mustang for sale online which had the leather steering wheel and leather shifter handle. The ad also included the VIN number of the car. I used that vin number to order the leather steering wheel and leather shifter **** from Tousley Ford. The steering wheel cost me $186.00 and the shifter **** cost me $53.43 I will post pictures once I receive and install them.

lol.. most dealers couldn't change a light bulb if their life depended on it. It takes all of 15 minutes to change out the wheel including swapping the buttons.
There are 3 screws that hold the horn plate on, then 1 ground screw on the wire harness, after that the buttons pull straight out.

I have another post on it already, and I have PM'd radiohead and cinque35 for their expertice on it.
I think what cinque35 said is the key...
the buttons pull straight out
I think that's what I've been missing. I've been trying to pry them out, but they don't look like they come out that way.
Looks like that whole thing just slides out towards the center of the wheel. If I can figure it out, I might even try this at lunch today in the parking lot at work.

I'm trying to piece things together. You are talking about replacing the base 2011 wheel with the Bullet? One issue is that the wiring connectors are different. But by moving the buttons from the 2011 wheel to the Bullet wheel that solves the connector issue because the wires are one piece with the buttons. Am I understanding it?
I know this is ressurecting an old post, but I am struggling with installing this wheel on my '11 base GT.

I'm not a fan of the factory leather but my wife wants it because the factory cloth seats are like velcro to dog hair! It never occurred to me that she might want to take the dog with us anywhere in this car. Found some new car takeoff leather for cheap and wondering if its a simple install. And if so, has anyone done it and did they need/wish they had upholstery experience?

Plus the buttons that come on the Bullitt wheel illiminate green, not blue.
I'm just not sure how much force I need to slide them out. I don't want to bust anything!
...if our two golden retreivers ever went for a ride in my Mustang, at least my seats are tan. The hair (and there definitely would be hair) would blend in! ...then there's the slobber!
That's why my wife's Equinox gets dog duty.

My last question is:
How hard do I have to yank on that sucker for it to slide out?
I'm trying to pry it out with a screwdriver near the wheel edge, while pulling the wire end. It's not cooperating.
It's my normal luck with this sort of thing.
What's easy for everyone else, turns into a huge project for me.

Then just run into something....
