I've been dreading the first "Baby Lincoln" at an auto show. If Linc is to be moved up-market successfully, it has to focus on the high-end cars to rebuild its image. But, if small cars continue to take over the market, the premium small-car market will also enjoy a boost. Hence the worry: Ford can't afford to cheapen Linc's new look, but also can't ignore the money to be made on that segment.
So, now I see more clearly where Merc fits in, by living in the premium compact market so Linc doesn't have to. Not a bad plan.
