I'm planning on doing it soon since I began burning oil again... I do not want to pull the heads a second time or have to replace the piston rings. I'm getting tired of this tired 2v and think that dropping in a fairly low mile 4v in would give me some reason to really love this car again.

because they're even cheaper and theres more of them

Yeah maybe for a termi motor, but not the 2001

Swapping engines is not that ludicrously expensive, and especially not so when going from a SN95 mustang engine to a SN95 mustang engine
I've gone through two engine swaps at this point and the both of them COMBINED weren't even 10K
And besides, ill take my SN95s over a S197 any day of the week

I'd only suggest an Aviator swap if one has an automatic transmission.
The rev limit on the "auto" 4Vs (Mach, Aviator, Marauder's) is lower than the manuals. I don't think Aviator's had a forged crank either and the manuals are 8 bolts as compared to the 6 mentioned above.

Aviator engines will withstand it. The only difference internally is the cast crank which is the mentioned 6 bolt setup. The heads and valve train are right out of a Mach. There's a few guys on SVTP and SN95 forums that have swapped in the Aviator long block and have had no troubles in the higher RPMs.
It can't be long before someone totals a 5.0 and we see it in pick'n'pull
After that its just another $3000 (give or take a few hundred) and some hours
Then after we figure out all the intricacies of the swap on Petes car, we can do mine

Aviator motor sounds like a good direction, but I'm thinking that possibly the best route is to buy a low mile Mach and swap in my IRS again. Maybe grab a DSG SN finally.
I figure that even if I was to get a new motor in this car there are still a number of issues I would need to work out. ABS has never worked, brake master cylinder started to hiss, creaks and groans. I am still not sure which is the most wise decision, but I think that is what I want to do.

except for maybe a 11+ S197
