I'm planning on doing it soon since I began burning oil again... I do not want to pull the heads a second time or have to replace the piston rings. I'm getting tired of this tired 2v and think that dropping in a fairly low mile 4v in would give me some reason to really love this car again.

Cobra motors go for 7-10k just for the motor, dont know about the Mach1's but I would assume about the same.

Yeah maybe for a termi motor, but not the 2001

If you're installing an engine with a block of solid gold maybe..

Swapping engines is not that ludicrously expensive, and especially not so when going from a SN95 mustang engine to a SN95 mustang engine

I've gone through two engine swaps at this point and the both of them COMBINED weren't even 10K

If all you need is the motor and computer, its actually fairly cheap, no more then 4k and that's buying a very low miles 4V. MPS usually has a termi motor w/t56 priced at around 10K (and that's overpriced compared to private sellers). As long as you don't have to pay for labor then its pretty reasonable.

And besides, ill take my SN95s over a S197 any day of the week

The aviator motor looks to be a very good option from what I've read. I think the biggest difference is the wiring. There's something called a COP harness (don't know exactly what it is but I was looking at someones build) that is evidently plug and play. Has 03/04 Cobra heads, 6 bolt crank. The pistons are the hypertentic (or however its spelled) pistons which seems to be the only downfall, but not an issue stock. Throw a Mach 1/ Cobra intake on it and roll. The torque curve would be very nice as well

Nah, ill still keep mine

However, the Shelby GTs are the kings in FS right now, and a 05-09 can be built to that spec. That's the only reason I would get a S197.

I'd only suggest an Aviator swap if one has an automatic transmission.

The rev limit on the "auto" 4Vs (Mach, Aviator, Marauder's) is lower than the manuals. I don't think Aviator's had a forged crank either and the manuals are 8 bolts as compared to the 6 mentioned above.

Aviator engines will withstand it. The only difference internally is the cast crank which is the mentioned 6 bolt setup. The heads and valve train are right out of a Mach. There's a few guys on SVTP and SN95 forums that have swapped in the Aviator long block and have had no troubles in the higher RPMs.

Gotcha! Some nice swaps indeed (after a quick search.)

It can't be long before someone totals a 5.0 and we see it in pick'n'pull

After that its just another $3000 (give or take a few hundred) and some hours

Then after we figure out all the intricacies of the swap on Petes car, we can do mine

Aviator motor sounds like a good direction, but I'm thinking that possibly the best route is to buy a low mile Mach and swap in my IRS again. Maybe grab a DSG SN finally. I figure that even if I was to get a new motor in this car there are still a number of issues I would need to work out. ABS has never worked, brake master cylinder started to hiss, creaks and groans. I am still not sure which is the most wise decision, but I think that is what I want to do.
