I would go through that car and change all fluids as soon as you can or as soon as you get to replacing that particular part. You don't know how well the car was kept up till now and by at least putting in new and proper fluids you can hopefully extend its life and possibly nip any future problems in the bud.
I think the brake fluid, since it may be original to the car, is every bit as important as the pads. It could have moisture in it or it could just be old.

I've got a list of things I wanna do when I get a chance to get to working on the car.
Replace brake fluid
Power steering fluid change?
Change radiator fluid, and find where I have a small leak
Check vaccuum hoses for a leak, I hear a small whistle at times, so I think that's what the deal is.
new air filter
fix the cats
figure out what exhaust and springs are on the car
give the engine bay a good cleaning, armor all FTFL
wash and wax the wheels inside and out, and clean up the wheel wells/brakes/calipers/springs/etc.
anything else general maintenance wise I need to worry about? she's at 75k miles now

copy of my post from MCTC - evaluation at bottom
difference, so far I think the previous ones were better, but I never really had the brake pads, mine were gone, so I can't really judge one way or the other. I like these, they stop pretty quick, although the pedal travel is a little far as of now. I really need to wash the car tomorrow, the brake dust is unreal, but I'm thinking it's mostly from bedding in the brakes, hopefully.
here's a couple pics from detailing my car and my aunts, and doing my brakes
sophia doing a wheelie! hahah
2010 wheels on my car, kinda like it!
yeahhh...they needed to be done
super dirty, havent quite 100% figured out which springs
all finished
they needed to be done, badly. so bad in fact, that the rear pistons, which are the screw in/out type had actually extended so far that they came out of their socket. We also had to file a bit of the paint off the ends of the brakes where it looks like they dipped them in, so they'd fit properly.
