You're not the only one too broke to fix your Mustang At least yours doesn't need an entire engine overhaul

So for the last few months, perhaps even the last year, most of my driving has sucked. Commute to SF from redwood city, then commuting from berkeley. driving in berkeley is a nightmare, more priuses than you can count and none of them know how to drive. i cannot tell you how many times an unfocused driver nearly ran into my precious Bullitt

a few weeks ago, i borrowed my friends honda passport to take a few of the visiting Irish to the shooting range, and i discovered a road. Redwood Road its called, and it takes you to one of the nicest feeling outdoor ranges ive been to. anyhow, that pig of a car was rolling like a **** and it took us forever to get to the range

fast forward a few weeks. im taking a gal to the same gun range. but this time, i dont have more than one passenger. i can use my car I began wondering as of late, if id ever get to really use my car the way its supposed to be again. if ill ever REAAAALLLY feel the gains of a rear seat delete, corbeaus and harnesses. My wonders were unwarranted. That was quite possibly the best drive ive had in my entire life. i had grown boring and complacent driving in the crowded berkeley and SF streets lately. Its almost like i forgot how to drive the way i drive. but little by little, i started remembering.

i remembered just how to suggest to the steering wheel that the car maintain a drift, how to downshift at juuuuust the rigght moment for that perfect rush of power after decelerating into the turn and man, it felt great

this is a really longwinded post about nothing particularly important, but the world needs to know that my bullitt was driven properly, the way IT wants to be driven, for the first time in ages. the whole car feels different. it feels, almost, full of life again.

also in other, less substantial news, ive broken 40k! since 2007 ive driven over 33K miles. this, i find, mindboggling

Glad you got to have some fun in the bullitt. There's no way I could EVER live in the city. I hate other drivers.

WTH. You just NOW found Redwood Rd??? I will own you on that road. In my V6. I know it like the back of my hand. Even the deer are afraid of me. When I would go up there at night a lot, sometimes they would run along side my car on that one long straight away. One time, there were two bucks in the middle of the road...you know if you brake at a buck, he will think you are rearing up to fight, and he will charge at you...so I just kept the gas planted and drove right at them. They both moved a little in opposite directions and I ended up splitting them hahaha. Yeah, I'm crazy.

dude, that sounds pretty awesome! I'm taking the Mustang to some roads like that for the next couple days. It's badly needed after a while of simply commuting.

lol i "discovered it" recently in the sense that i realized what it was. i had been on it before on a bike, and i didnt know where we were going. i was riding with my friend in the lead so i just followed. but once i understood its THAT road to the range and redrove it in the assport, i was stoked for driving it in the bullitt. it was overall a great day, went shooting, only took the one girl () and got to drive the bullitt the way it meant to be lol.

i will bet you a popeyes chicken meal #7 that i can beat you btw :P

david (and nathan actually :P), you will love roads like this so much better than any BS commute or city. and the kicker in all this was that i didnt see another car til like a few "blocks" (there are no blocks out here lol) before the range. and the icing on the cake was that the gal was never worried that i was going too fast. she "felt very safe in these racing harnesses"

Haha where's the invite man?! I'm part Irish...(and Scottish)! And yeah it's hard to say, that road is so technical and very low speed, you'll def have the torque coming out of the corners, but hey we're not going to condone street racing here so... I'm down for a couple of cat and mouse runs some time within the next couple weeks though. You have to be out of there by 10pm or the park rangers get pissy. Also, during the day, the cyclers kinda take over, but only in the summer time. There are a few, better paved, roads around NorCal that we should definitely hit up. Redwood is pretty bumpy. Every time I go up there it adds new squeaks to my rattle trap haha. I need to finally get my GTSIIs and harnesses. Of that (not to mention the rest of the Bullitt-ness, esp the V8/5-spd), I am jealous.

Congrats on getting back out there and really driving the Bullitt, dude. I can't wait for that moment myself. It'll be 6 months of no driving of any kind for me when I get back from Iraq, but hopefully the Bullitt will be close to driveable when I get back, before I hit the 3 year anniv of blowing the motor. It's been a looooong while, I've def got the itch!
