iPod AUX adapter for Shaker
Hey everyone I purchased this package to be able to use the stock Shaker 500 AUX button with my Ipod. This little box gives you RCA outputs. I used an iPod cable that goes from RCA's to the head phone jack. You can find them at any big audio place(etc. Best Buy, Crutchfield, Circuit City).
Note:
A voltmeter is always a great tool to start with when wiring radio equipment.

First follow TacoBill's Hotlink for Metra Amplified Windshield Antenna Install. http://forums.bradbarnett.net/showthread.php?t=445173
Follow through removing the 4 bolts that hold in the Shaker 500 head unit.
There are many different locations to route the cable; I chose the snap in plastic panel inside the arm rest on the driver’s side.

Measure your headphone jack diameter and select the appropriate drill size.

I measured and marked the center of the panel with tape and a pen

The plastic is real soft so I chose to get the hole started with the shown drill bit before using the 13/32"

From this point I followed TocoBill’s advice in his windshield install in using Pin 2 on the J1 connector.
You need to wire the harness to 12V power and also ground. He chose the pin 2 because it only comes on when you key on, the one I initalled it too is 12V all the time. I need to go back and fix that.
Note: This didn’t initially work for me because I blew a fuse in the passenger side floorboard box (took a while to figure that out) so my adapter wasn't initally working, so I hooked up to the direct 12V to the ((+)in the diagram) and the ground to the ((-)in the diagram) until I have a chance to switch back over to Pin 2

.
I mounted the box here, forgot to take pictures but you can imagine it sitting there with 3M double sided tape.

The best place to route the wires in my case was along the bundle that runs under the cup holders to the parking brake. The wire tapes nicely to the wires. I also had extra slack with the 7’ cable.

The final outcome!!!

Send me comments or questions

Hopefully others thinking of doing the samething can use this as a guide.

This is the item I forgot to show the pic, but the one pic I have an arrow of is where i 3M taped that down. It's basically an inline harness with a small little box that interupts the input to the radio allowing the input to be your ipod. You also have to power and ground it! Does this answer your question?

Yes, it's called itriptunes, but you can't use your AUX button. You must set your radio station to one of three options to get the signal to the speakers. Much more simple that this install but I bet doing it like jodadejSS06GT will give you better quality sound. I can't complain I love my itrip tunes. I think it sounds great but I have not heard jodadejSS06GT system. I'm sure it's sweet.
I almost went with this one myself. The advantage here is that you can drive the iPod from the Shaker deck, it charges the iPod, and it has a second input for HD Radio, Bluetooth, or some other audio device.
In the end, I went with an aftermarket deck that included all three (Bluetooth, iPod, and HD Radio). But if you want to keep the Shaker deck, this one I'd look hard at.

This past weekend I wanted to compare my iPod to an mp3 cd with the same song. I couldn't tell a difference between the two; they both sound really good.
I just went with this connection because it’s so much easier to update a playlist on the iPod rather than burning a new cd.
I like the charging capability, but I use my iPod for the gym and at work also. If you constantly charge your battery, the life of it will suck. I'd rather just have an external charger to plug in when I need it. Besides, its way easier to scroll through a playlist to find a song on the iPod rather than on the factory radio's crappy display.
It comes down to what you prefer.

That's what I ended up doing. I took a look at the options and decided that that made the most sense. But if you want to keep the Shaker (some do), there are options out there.
