Your pic showed that there were no RCA inputs, not that there is not a way to get this done. There was a schematic showing what the connectors were for and someone mentioned that it may be the same proprietary plug on the previous MACH systems. Never got a response on that thread before the boards went down last week or so. Last I knew, it was diagrammed and being tossed around here.

I found this site, http://peripheralelectronics.com/2002/aux_in.asp thinking they might have a plug for the new mustang. Doesn't look like they do, but as you stated, perhaps the other model plugs they have would work..

I've emailed the company asking, but they have yet to return my email.

*UPDATE* - I called the company that produces this unit and they don't have any wiring harnesses for the '05 mustang. I asked if any other would work and the guy wasn't sure..

He did say though that they plan on producing a harness for the '05 at a later date, but no ETA.

THis is rediculous the after market industry hasnt come out with anything yet. Or that ford didnt give us an option if we wanted to hook this up. If it comes down to it i will get fm modulation (wired not wireless cause that stinks). I have a friend at best buy who is a car audio expert (this guy can do about anything with car stereos) but im unsure to take it into him since no one really has an answer if it can be done and I really dont wanna be a guini pig.

Are you talking about the one that plugs straight into your antenna, and then plugs into the audio output jack of the device?

If so, I'd be curious to hear about your experience with it.

The aux input is an 8 pin connector on the back. The plug is available from Metra and scoche soon. There is a diagram and radio removal steps on another forum.

This is getting a bit confusing.....so now that we have determined that metra makes the harness for the AUX output - now we have the capability of hooking up XM or Sirus via the AUX function? Does this mean that an XM tuner could be directly hard wired to the stock head unit and not require the FM modulation set up?

That's how I understand it.

I went to an Audio shop today for the XM system and he is going to call tomorrow to see if he can get an adapter to hard wire the XM tuner. I really don't know if this means he's trying to use the AUX function of the Ford head unit or not????

IIRC this will allow me to skip the FM modulation via RF - but I will still have to have the (hard wired FM modulation) with the XM head unit - does this sound right to those in the know?

I'm gussing there is no way to get XM working through the stock head unit at all?

My plan is to mount the XM head unit using velcro inside the console storage bin and leave enough line so that I can pull it out and lay on the console if necessay - I just don't want that unit cluttering up the dash and want the entire XM system out of site.

Chris - you got it!! Here in 1000 Oaks with all the foohills we don't get very good radio reception at all and I'm determined to install the XM - just for clarity and I'm guessing it's going to be much more varied music with far fewer commercials!!

Some Sat - I'll plan on coming out to Simi and perhaps we can meet for lunch at the Hat or somewhere and check out each others rides....what mods have you done so far?

I believe if done properly, you can hook up a Mr. Microphone to the shaker.
"Hey good looking. I'll be back and pick you up later."

Bump...

Have any electronic engineer genius-types had a chance to play with the harness and make the AUX IN work? :worship:

No progress on the harness from me. However I do have a word of advice for those who use FM transmitter to send signal to a satellite receiver: if you do not listen to your FM stations take off your antenna. I did that yesterday and it drastically decreased (practically eliminated) the amount of interference I was getting. I drive on Rt. 1 in central NJ and use frequence of 107.7. Typically I have a spot or two where the FM signal from the station is very strong and starts to interfere with my FM transmitter. Not today! I'll be visiting Home Depot today to buy a small bolt to cover the opening for the antenna, so that water does not accumulate in there.
