I'm thinking about just asking somone in the parts department at my dealer what it does, why the button is there, and if it will mean anything in the future. This is getting annoying, and I want to know what is up before I get my sirius radio...

Hey that Alpine unit sounds mighty nice! Being able to control it from the head unit, I like that. However, I would be grateful for a stereo/headphone plug that I could just plug into the car stereo somewhere.

I can't believe so many people keep asking the same question, opening heaps of topics on it, even in the wrong subforum and still nobody knows the answer... :bang:

My sirius Orbiter has a mini transmitter that you can choose between 5 Fm stations. Less wires to have dangling.

The stations are like 88.7-89.5 or something like that.

I haven't officially got it. I got it for myself for Christmas.

I heard the Aux is used with a Ford rear seat DVD player used on other models (this is a corporate radio head even though it says Shaker in the Mustang).

If so, the head may require a digital link to the external device before it will pick up the aux audio inputs. Kind of like the previous external CD changers.

Might find a clue by looking up the electrical diagrames in the service manual for one of the other models that actually uses the aux input (eg Freestyle). It should show the individual connections, including a data link if there is one.

Anyone have access to a service manual for a DVD equipped Freestyle?

Guys it can't be that hard. Most OEM radios that accept an AUX input do not have regular cinch connectors. The reason for this is to keep the ignorant from buying aftermarket stuff to hook up and making them buy OEM cd changers etc at rediculous prices. There is probably a propriety connector on the back of the unit, near the regular power and speaker connectors. You will probably need a specific Ford wiring harness to connect it there. On the other end of the harness there might be cinch connectors or there might be a soldering job ahead. Why doesn't somebody go to a dealerships parts department, have them check out all wiring harnesses available for that radio and find out which one does the trick? I mean if everybody just keeps asking each other you are never going to find out!

for about $400, you can get the Alpine CDA-9835 (or cheaper 9833) with the Alpine Ipod box. It was confirmed in another thread that this headunit will work with the Shakersystems. The only thing you loose, is the 6 disk changer (duh) and the speed sensitve control.

FM modulators and RCA adapters will work...but I had both...and it gets OLD really fast to have to pick up the ipod while you are driving to change the song...pause it....or whatever. Also, if the RCA stereo jack isn't pushed all the way in to the iPod...you will get popping, whining, etc. which is another pain.

ok people... I lurk on this board but registered to post this one post just for you.

what you need is called an auxiliary input converter. There's a company called Precision Interface Electronics that makes them. You'll often see satellite radio people refer to them simply as "PIE adapters" - refer to www.pie.net for more info

It doesn't appear that they have an adapter yet for the 05 mustang, but they do have them for the previous generation of mustangs, as well as other ford vehicles. It stands to reason that they're developing one for the '05.

It might be worth emailing them to ask if/when one will be available... this adapter will solve all your mp3 player/satellite radio/etc woes.

and with that, I will slip quietly out into the background and continue my lurking.

EDITED TO ADD: lest anyone think i'm trying to advertise for PIE or something, there's another company I know of that makes similar products... www.blitzsafe.com - like PIE, though, they don't yet have an application for the '05 mustang, but they do have the previous mustangs and other fords. You could drop them an email as well.

Great find!!

This looks like the answer, these devices have the right digital link to the radio head to make it think there is a factory accessory there. They make quite a few other interesting gadgets too.

A few emails from us should help convince PIE to build one for the new Mustang/corporate radio head, if they are not already.

Welcome to the forums! Please join in the discussions, it's more fun than lurking!

I just emailed PIE. I told them about the situation and I will post anything they send back. I would like someone else to send some messages their way as well though, since I don't have my car yet and they might have some questions about what kind of plugs and jacks are on the back ot the radio. Someone should take a picture too.

PIE stinks. They finally e-mailed me back and all they had to say was, "We have seen this product and do not offer anything for it." Whatever. Someone out there better make a connector for this radio.

Here is your final answer...
Aux control is a universal button on this style of radio-The faceplate is used on various models, some of which have DVD controls. I have looked through the wiring diagrams and no function is available in the Mustang.

Since it's the same head unit as other Fords, would it be possible to connect it to the Ford DVD system (the unit in the Freestyle, etc.).

I haven't seen the unit, but I would assume that it has RCA inputs that could then be used to plug in an iPod, etc. An expensive way to go I'm sure, but probably a fairly easy install.

What would make it even better is if the DVD unit is actually 2 pieces, with the RCA inputs on a separate base unit, away from the DVD screen.

Anyone have any thoughts on whether something like this would work?

this thread is killing me! I plan on creating an adapter (I'm a audio/Video Engineer for the entertainment industry) I just dont have my Mustang yet.
rest assured as soon as that box is in my hands I will have a functioning adapter for ya.

I have yet to see an aux without any unbalanced inputs. if these new decks only have a coax digital interface we may be in trouble. (the Ipod and XM/Serius units are analog only.)
