You can't use the map light circuit for a simple tap for a grounded item as it will cause your map lights to stay on all the time. Any item that requires a hot side plus ground needs a tap off the fuse box.
FYI - I installed a autodimming mirror from 90's Cadillac and just tapped the power wire for the mirror into the black/blue stripe wire and the ground into the solid black wire. Everything works fine-no troubles. The factory service manual shows the black/blue stripe as a constant hot wire and the solid black as a ground.

I finally installed my Gentek G50 with compass/temp/and Homelink! What a PITA this was.

Since I have a vert the process was a little different - no headliner to hide that large, bricklike Molex connector built in to the wiring harness. I had to lunch it and solder/heatshrink the wires in order to lower the profile of the wiring harness.

I have a RED wire (switched power supply) and a YELLOW wire (no idea) in the harness. The manual sucks. There is no reference to a YELLOW wire for a setup without map lights (which I don't have.)

Talk about crypic instructions.

Electrochromatic works great. The vacuum fluorescent display could be a bit brighter though. Also, the Homelink buttons aren't lit - at night I can't see where to press to open my garage door!!! WTF?

I second the garage door button lights. What were they thinking?
