ROTFLMAO That is a GREAT chop! Nice post Lalo!

Personally I'm too lazy for T-Tops! A convertible I can deal with but the whole having to take off the tops and put them back on for a little sun & breeze I'll pass on. My friend has a t-top 99 Firebird and removing the tops gets old quick. Even she admits she doesn't do it much. To each his/her own though, having that option would be nice. $.02

I would like well designed T-Tops. They are a pain but worth it. I have had 3 or 4 cars with them - none of them ever leaked. I did have a leaky aftermarket pop top once.

this is 2004 not 1984... i dont think we have to worry about ford putting out a car with leaky t-tops..... i think we can assume they are beyond that point of QC

There is no provision for a retracting power moonroof on the short curved roof of fox 3/4 and the 05.
Where does this info come from?

Not offering a sunroof has nothing to do with the "shape" of the roof. The G35 Coupe has almost the exact same roofline as the stang, and has a retractable (inside) moonroof as an option.

So a moonroof can indeed be made to fit.

A friend has one of those G35s, pretty sweet little ride... She pre-ordered, and was one of the first on the road with it... kinda cool.

Her moon roof works great too,

My thing is that I would love to get a vert, but what happens with the 05 stangs is that you lose the fastback line and the quarter window. Thats a lot to lose on this car. IMO one of the best design cues. Thats why a targa top would be the best of both worlds. Beautiful lines and fresh air.

Targa is also better than T-top since it does not have the center bar. The center bar is what makes it look 80's.

There is my 2 cents.

I agree. I'm not willing to sacrafice the car's lines for the top-down feel.

Gimicks such as t-tops are put on cars that need a boost in sales. The Camaro is a perfect example. It had to have something the Mustang didn't in order to generate interest in the car. 99.99% of Mustang buyers would purchase it wether or not it has t-tops so Ford is not going to put in the effort for thousand or so extra units.

For those who say the Camaro t-tops are great and don't leak...give it time. It took about 6 years for my '85 to start leaking.

hrm, My fox has a moonroof....
I agree though, leave a fixed roof. The targa would be cool, in its own ways, but the Glassback seems like the best to me

I would LOVE a targa! (and no t-tops either). Drop-top open air car with the lines of the coupe -- perfect!

But, I am sure Ford doesn't think there is enough room in the marketplace for both a vert and a targa. Dammit.

Never gonna happen, but i would buy a mustang with a retractable hardtop roof like the (SLK350 roadster) has.I would be more then happy to forgo a usable trunk for the option.

I think Ford is wrong if they think that there is "no room" in the marketplace for a Coupe, Targa coupe , and a Vert. They all have their appeal and the profitabilty on the targa would be higher than the coupe as you all know cause the profit are in the options. Gimme a targa top for 1200 bucks extra and I am there in a flash. Would make the ultimate muscle car. BTW girls sure dont think T-tops are old fashioned. They love em'. But there may be an argument that they are too much for QC, and hassle factor of our supremely lazy society after all it must take me at least 90 seconds to take them off in the AM on a nice day. After that I am very tired so I cant shift with my exhausted arm that big muscular shifter..............C'mon Ford .... You can sure figure out how to chop the roof with a nice targa top and put it in the trunk sideways with seats folded down. No rocket science there. Claude

401dieselin-

I was wondering about you, then I saw what kind of car you drive, and now I know why you and your girls like T-tops.

The Camaro, since about 1976, has been a Disco car. Yes, there are many very fast and desireable ones, and the LT-1 was pretty fast, but it's still a disco car. http://www.discostyle.com/faq7.html

If Ford wanted to do it, they absolutely could. The only reason they don't is one of $$$$. They want people to buy the more expensive convertible. I've had three Mustangs in a row - an 87 LX 5.0, a 92 GT w/factory moonroof, and my current '02 GT. I waited 11 years to buy the '02 hoping that ford would again offer a factory sunroof but no deal! As for now, I would have bought the '05 GT if I could get a factory moonroof but Ford's ploy has paid-off - I'm going to wait 'til the spring and pay them an extra $3,500 for a GT convertible. IMHO, I think they're making a mistake because I think they could make an extra $700-$900 if they only offered a factory moonroof. Despite what others think, I really believe that 90% of Mustang buyers would take a sunroof without any complaints.

The glassback seems like a happy middle.
