Tint Shop Smoking
Tint Shop Smoking
So I know there's a ton of threads about smoked tail lights, But I'm looking for a little more specific photos and comments. I lost one of my GTS covers so instead of buying another set, I'm thinking about taking the stang to a tint shop and doing them their since I haven't had any trouble with the cops. Anybody tinted their lights at a tint shop? I'd like them to be as dark as the GTS covers, so the darker the better. Comments, photos, price?
You mean you are planning on installing window tint on your lights? Um, tint is applied to the inside of windows, not the outside and it would not form to your lights, let alone stand up to the elements.
Instead of going to a tint shop, go to a body shop and have the lights spray tinted. Mine are lightly done. The second pic was a shop in the area doing a group buy, that was a test he shot for ppl to look at, center is stock, right is light, left is darker but of course he could go as dark as the customer wanted as long as it was a "show car only"

Some custom car shops also carry LaminX products. These are made to adhere to the outside of the lights. They have a smoke color and a lighter color they cal "Tint". You can buy it in either sheet or pre-cut for the Mustang.

Yes I ment the laminx type. I guess its not actually tint. I'm referring to the permanent form of smoking the lights. GTS covers stick out and fit like a POS so I've decided to do them permanently. I thought tint shops would carry the material, so its actually a body shop thing? Whats the material they spray on?
Hey shoto, did you ever get to see how visible braking was on the heavy version? Thats my only concern. The GTS were dark as hell, but let out light (but also fit like you know what)
Wasn't there a guy on here that used to sell the precut kits? batmobile or something? I think the spray on is the way to go...

Pics of darker showing light, have not seen in person to give my opinion.

Again, that guy was a group buy and he was doing them for $50 a pair since he was all setup and just went from light to light. Guessing around $100 by yourself? Price it out, and assume you are bringing them just the lights (cuts down on labor they have to do).

Here's a URL to the Laminx Mustang products.

On the VHT Nite Shades there are two products. one is a spray on window tint and the other is a lens tent. From reading posts in forums I found by doing a "Nite Shades" google, I found that the stuff doesn't work well for light shades. You have to put on several coats to get an even tint and that would be too dark for my application. I would like to hear from more customers that have used this product as a one coat application before I would buy it. I would also note that I had a friend in the custom car business check on this product only to find that his distributors could not get it. Seems the company is in some sort of financial trouble at the moment and all orders are on backorder.
I have a set of clear front corner lights with small amber reflectors coming in and I want to give them a light smoke tint so as to not totally block the amber reflective properties. Just enough smoke tint to come close to the look of the headlights. I did want the silver reflective properties of the turn signal section or I would have gone with the black corners.
There is a partners URL at the Laminx site to show who carries their product. These products are made to adhere to the outer surfaces of the lenses unlike standard window tinting material.

If you are going light, probably better to have a body shop do it with a good spray gun. Again, I do not know what product was sprayed on my lights, but it is light, and unless you know the proper color of mustang taillights, you would not notice they were ever sprayed.
OK, so it seems like with products like VHS, sanding and prepping is a must for a glossy shine. However I wonder if a product like this
http://www.americanmuscle.com/spray-...nt-smoked.html
Is just as good without having to prep. It seems like the american muscle product would need some prep work to insure that it sticks, but the instructions just say clean and apply. What do you guys think? I'm def going to do it myself.
