SilverHorse Racing taillight bezels
Thanks guys - to answer the question....
In the future still yes - we've been pulled in 100 directions, and some of what is on the horizon is really cool for us and will eventually be cool for you as well. We are learning our new software, which allows us to go straight from computer model to machining with no intermediate step - that saves easily days on some of these parts, maybe more. The new machines are here, and one will be running its first job tomorrow, and the other is backed up but catching up quickly. I expect to be "caught up" with existing products within another month or so, and then we can press forward with new product launches as we can get them out.
There's a lot of exciting things coming, that's all I can say

Hi SilverHorse,
I was wondering if a grille with rectangular driving lights will ever be a avalible? I don't mind the Mr.Magoo lights but I always remembered the old stock grilles over the Shelby type with the ralley lights.

Ummm, the short answer is no, but long term maybe - although probably not for the first gen S197. Problem is that tooling up a mold big enough for the front grill is "extremely" expensive if you are doing it correctly and doing it here in the US, so we have stayed away from that for now. The other problem is volume - unless you can promise an order for 2-3000 of them, the per-piece cost will not be something you would like, because the mold has to be paid for over the run...
I'll be honest, it doesn't look realistic given the costs involved. We did some homework on it, and billet really isn't the way to make this part. Going to a casting, you're going to add a lot of cost and weight that you might as well go with a plastic solution - and there are already a couple of these available on the market to fill that niche. While a one-off set could be done in Billet and look really nice, I don't think anyone would appreciate the price we'd have to charge to do these justice - realistically you'd be in the 200+ range for a good set by the time all the work was done to them with finishing costs and all included.
Well if the consensus is moving in that direction, then the answer might switch back to yes - we just didn't want people to think we were ripping them off or something, and it just isn't going to be a cheap part in billet due to the material size and cuycle time to go 3D on at least the back surface, and 2.5D on the front.
Of course, that said, if there's the demand for it, we can definitely make it. ALthough I know there is a demand for the pieces, I didn't think that it would be sustainable in the higher price ranges since there were so many out there now that could be had for 50.00 or so... if I'm wrong on this, chime in and we can continue to spend time on it.

A quality piece would definitely be preferable over cheap plastic... especially if it integrates well with the honeycomb rear panel!
Granted I'd hate to spend $100 or more for the piece but I'd do it!

Well, as always, I try and incorporate history with a modern interpretation in my design work, and that is right where I was drawing from. The biggest problem with the 05+ is that all surfaces are in 3D, vs. older school stuff which was surprisingly flat in design (to make it easy to manufacture). So if you go the route of the 65-68 design idea, you have to realize that half of the part (mating half) has to be in 3D, while the front half has to blend it into a 2.5D design that looks reminiscent of the originals without being a blatant rip-off. All of this in an area that isn't all that big, and requires 3M tape to adhere it because nobody likes using screws on the exterior anymore...
Oh, and there's a new FMVSS standard that says you have to have pretty much side visibility of tail lamps, so the depth has to be kept in check to allow for this to occur as well...
I hate being the realist in the bunch sometimes

Any News and My Thoughts

I would much rather have the bezels made of the same, quality plastic as the Honeycomb panel. They would then match the panel exactly and be a little more affordable.
Hope these are still a possibility.
