Mud Flaps on a GT? Controversial or Not?

Ford sells a front/rear flat guard kit: F6ZZ-16A550-BA
However I'm not sure what is involved with the install. Which guards are people buying at AutoZone?

With the risk of giving away my age, I lived in the days of 68 Camaro's, 69 Mach 1's and 69 Chevelles. My '66 Mustang was only 9 years old when I got it. Mud flaps were a standard customization in those days. Chrome, black, whatever. We put them on because we thought they looked good. I still think they look good - and I like them on your cars.
