My last car was Benz 560SL so I'm coming at things like this from a slightly different perspective
I brainstormed with a local body shop about the mirrors and had the the mirror and mount taken out, sanded down to make everything perfectly smooth and had the whole nine yards painted and baked on the body color. They are now a perfect extension of the body/color (windevil blue) without a trace of that horrible black plastic

I do hope Midwest Auto succeeds with a good insert!

By the way has anyone compared the Midwest plenum cover
to the BBK aluminum/Chrome Powder one?

Good and Plenum eye candy

Brad. Lets get this thing started... Can you or one of the Mods get it going. Can we get a discount, even though the price is very resonable....

Here's the response I received from Roberta Keidl at Midwest Composite earlier today regarding availability of the mirror inserts:

"Mark,
We are currently working on the tool design for the mirrors. We are
estimating that the covers will become available the beginning of
February. The cost of the painted covers will be 64.95, which will
include the shipping.
If you are interested, I will put your name on our pre-production order
list.
Thanks
Bobbie"

These seem a little pricey to me!?

As Ive said before. Go down to a paint store, see what primer, 1 ounce, yes 1 ounce of basecoat, and clearcoat will cost. Over $50.

Plus, you have to have the tools and expertise to use them.

$65 shipped. Very reasonable.

I think $65 is a good deal based on their past history with the engine cover. I've painted a few things for the car (hood struts, tower brace) and just the paint (base, clearcoat) ain't cheap. Also, its one of the most visible spots on the car

You might want to relax on contacting them and just get your name on the group buy list mentioned elsewhere in this thread. They may have a better price for TMS members.

Just thought I would put up a shot of the first molded parts off of the tooling all painted and such. We just have to finalize the packaging yet, so I think we should be shipping the first week of February to those that are on the pre-order list. We are also giving everybody on the pre-order list a discount and there is still time to get on the list. Base coat clear coat paint is very expensive, even at the huge qualtities we buy. Metallic base coats are about $350.00 per gallon and the clear coat is about $120.00 per gallon.

Wow, its amazing how much those complete the look of the car I can't wait! And 65 bones is a fargin steal IMO. This is a must-do mod. Again, I am still not quite sure why Ford flat out chickened out on doing skull caps.

They are on Ranger/Fusion/Freestyle/500/explorer/expedition/Sport trac/F150/and even superduty. Like I said before, this is the only Ford with the 'recess' in the mirror, all the other models that do not have the caps have an entirely different mirror for the black base version. Go figure. Even if Ford came out with them as a part I would still go with MAG because they took the initiative.
