I love that '66 GT fender emblem. Those 66 GTs had a rocker stripe too if I remember correctly.
Don,

Yes the 65 and 66 GTs did have a rocker stripe with Mustang spelled out in chrome, metal letters. In fact, the 66 GT does not have an external running horse except for the one in the grill. The gas cap in 66 simply states GT just as it does today.

Thats just what I did with my 05. Added a rocker stripe with chrome Mustang letters. Not really readable on my avatar, but its there.

We just can't win. If we put GT350 or GT500 on the stripe we're posers. If the stripe said Mustang GT, it is too many GT's. And now a stripe that just says MUSTANG is also a problem? Last time I looked the car was a Mustang. And yes the 65 and 66 GTs all had a stripe that said Mustang. I don't see what the problem is. If you want to get picky, you really didn't see anything with LeMans stripes but Shelbys, and even those were not done at the factory. Look how many people have put them on these new cars. I think they look great on them.

No one has stated what you can and can't do on this thread, the only thing said was that the rocker panel stripes don't look good. I agree with that.

I even think the LeMans stripes have been way overdone with the new stangs, hence I went with a different theme.

BTW, Kevin, I just painted my rockers black, but I still don't think that rocker panel decals would look good on my car. That's JMO though.

Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion of what looks good, but I have to say back in Nov '04 I came across fellow silver 05 GT here in Austin that had the black MUSTANG rocker stripe and I did not like it one bit. I guess I just thought it was really cool that for the first time ever the words mustang are not on the car in stock form. Its quite a statement that the car has acheived iconic status when Ford can leave off the nameplate and 99% of the population, young and old, can tell you it's a Mustang instantly! But to each his own.

I just prefer a clean look with no stripes of any type. I applaud Ford for making it an option that we can choose to add or not, and they aren't forcing us to remove it if we don't like it.

I had a Monte Carlo SS in 1986, and as soon as I got it home from the dealer I took a hair dryer to it and removed every decal from the exterior.

i know what you were saying.......but other people take it as us gt owner are always putting down over v6 counterparts....
i am sick of the v6 vs. GT, In my opinion, the body style is a winner, conversely, we GT owners are paying 4-10K more for our vehicles and if that gives someone and inferiority complex, tough----IMO this vehicle is a sportscar, if you like the daily driver and minor gas mileage improvements, fine get a V6, but also imo, if you buy a V6 and add 5K in exterior enhancements, you are a fool, why not just get a GT, the, mileage gains are minimal----ih, darn, now this will get into a iinsurance rate beef--sheesh

well Patience, some of us are young and cant afford the GT or the GT insurance (which was HUGE for me)and love the v6 to death! I have no problem putting 5k of exterior mods on a car i love to make it look better. After all, looks are half the fun!
