honest opinions on 22 inch wheels
i ordered my 22's a week ago and there going to be here this week sometime but i have been hearing alot of people on here talk about how ugly they think they are is this because of the fact that they cant afford 22's or do they not like them because there into performance and the bigger wheels hurt that or what im lost ,sorry if this sounds like a hate thread cause its not, its just that i have always liked the bigger wheel less tire look and after seeing the white GT with the red strips on 22's at sema last year thats the look i have been wanting to build in my new GT but i want silver with metalic white strips lowered one inch on 22's with a nice body kit
so anyway what are ya'lls honest opinions on running 22 inch wheels on the new stang

I dont really have much of an opinion, but I was under the impression that most people thought 22's were not very practical and it will lower your performance. I'm not a wheel guru by any means, but it just seems thats what most people were thinking here.
You may get a loss of performance from a 22 but the reason I don't like them is because of how they look. When you look at the lines of the car and what it looks like with 22's, it is so overpowering that it takes away from the car. You can get the small tire, large wheel look your going for without overdoing the whole package.
I think the first pic above looks OK, would I do it, NO, but I think it looks OK.
The 2nd one looks bad IMO. I think its just cause I don't like those rims, no matter what the size.
So, if all you're going for is appearance mods and you don't care about any performance losses - go for it.
Personally, I wouldn't want to add that much unsprung weight to the Stang

Mike,
Thinking that those of us who don't like them only do so because we can't afford them is insulting. So do you only like them because they are way expensive and you want to prove to everyone that you can afford such ornamentation? Also insulting. See what I mean?
I don't like the "wagon wheel" look of huge, spindly wheels with a rubber band wrapped around them. The ride quality has to be pretty rough and I actually like to see some tire (I'm a Mustang guy who started in the early 70s). But like Buck Nekid said, who cares what I think? Make yourself happy.

I guess if you're into the "cruising" scene and all you do is drive slowly in a straight line then I guess you're ok. But if you actually like "driving" your Mustang you'll hate the fact that it rides like a buckboard and you'll forever cringe everytime you take a corner, go over a speedbump, park..... need I go on.
22" is waaaaaay too much wheel, forget the looks. These cars are made to be driven!

For some of us it is not a matter of being able to afford 22's. You assume to much. That would be like me assuming your name vc4life makes you a gang banger or I picture you as one of the guys that reclines way back in the car where all we can see is the top of your head and your hand on the steering wheel. stinks when you assume stuff doesn't it. Anyway, I saw 22"s for $400.00 a rim and they weren't worth it because you could tell they were bad quality. Leave 22's on SUV's and trucks for the bling-bling factor. They look gawd awful on the mustang and I agree with Brad. I didn't even like the 20's on the Saleen or the concept car. Go big or go home was not intended for rim size on the mustang.
I don't feel 22's look bad, but they aren't very practcial for everyday street use. One pothole could cost you a rim/tire. If you are just displaying the car in shows they are fine. Also, you are now going to need an aftermarket brake upgrade to stop those 22's effectively.
If the 22's are fitted with rubber bands, wouldn't the overall tire diameter be close to stock anyway? For example, my tires are 27" high, only .5" more than stock. The 22" rims may be bigger than my 18's but the lower profile of the tire should end up making the tire close to stock hieght, at least if you are buying the right stuff. Why would that require a different brake package? The overall diameter has not changed. All you have done is replace the rubber with more rim.
I don't think it would require different brakes.

I am a big rim liker also... but even I think 22s are too big. I am probably going with 20s. I am not worring about the loss of power... I drive a 85hp saturn... i'm pretty sure that ((300hp - 3" of rim) > 85hp)
