HID issues

Ok I finally got the HID kit install from HIDguy.net. Only two days later after the install.......one of the headlights would not light up. I had the kit installed by an audio and electronic shop, so I hope they did it right. I swapped the bulbs to see if it was a blown bulb......and the same headlight was out and the other stayed on. So it leads me to think its the ballast. I have the worst luck. I can't believe a ballast to go bad that fast. Am I missing something or is my guess right?

I'm not sure. I've occasionally had the same problem ittermittently with my foglights and HIDguy told me the system can be sensitive to voltage variations. I was never able to figure it out because it was ittermittent and I haven't had a problem since last winter or spring. If you contact them, they're usually very helpful and they can even test the suspect relay to see if its really bad. It never hurts to check all the connections, by the way

Jinx, are you using the relay harness or just the plug and play harness?

Wow. I'm glad you are on here. I tried to contact before, but never an answer when I was waiting on my order. I wasnt sure if I could reach you. Thank you for being here regardless.

I bought the "05-09 (All) Mustang Headlight H13 Bi-xenon (Hi & Lo) HID Kit": http://www.hidguy.net/index.php?main...roducts_id=319

It was professionally installed by a local car audio and electronic shop. I think it plugged into the stock harness, 12v power (had a fuse with, nice btw), and grounds. I'm not very knowledgable about these kits that why I had it installed by people who do them often. When I turned on the lights yesterday it flashed, then only one stayed on. I swapped the bulbs (so it cant be the bulbs). And still the same. I love the color and the beam, but I hate it gave out. Any idea HIDguy?

So its not a ballast? What does the relay harness do exactly for the plug and play kits?

Why would you buy a kit over the internet and then take it somewhere for the install? You really have no idea what they did on the install and are now trying to trouble-shoot the problem? If you are not competent enough to install the kit you should just take it to a shop and get them to do it all, and buy their product. Good luck on your repair. Personally, if I didn't have factory HID's I would just get some Sylvania Silver Stars and be done with it.

First of all time and tools was an issue. Next I didnt know of anyone locally that sold them. Hell, I bought every part on the car from the internet and had a shop install and dyno tune it. So whats the problem with getting someone that did a few (versus someone like who has done none) for a few bucks? Answer: There isn't one. If it makes you feel better by taking jabs at me for not installing it myself, do it somewhere else because it isn't helping the thread any. If I have to buy a replacement 35w ballast, so be it. I'm just trying to find answers. Someone has mentioned a relay and that will be tried next.

I apologize for sounding harsh, but I'm not understanding why you haven't taken it back to the installing shop for troubleshooting? If they are specialists maybe they can figure out the problem and save you some cash over just replacing random parts that may or may not repair the problem.

Jinx the relay harness converts the headlight power from 35w to 50w or from 50w to 35w I can't remember. I think the stocks are 50w and the HID are 35 so the relay makes the computer think they are 50w. You should be able to install it yourself it is 2 simple plugs that just snap in.

I found a business a town over that someone recommended. They tested the ballast. The ballast was no good. They replaced the ballast with their own and installed free of charge. I wish I found them earlier. Plus they installed LEDs for the reverse lights and license plate. Everything is working great.
