17x8 should clear the brakes, but just barely. It is all due to the offset. My final order took 5 weeks to arrive but still waiting for the spinners, that is 2 months now for those and counting

Adrenalin...I mean not the clearance from the front caliper but from the side...when I saw yours wheels,Isaw the distance between the inside of yours wheels and the caliper ...perhaps 1/2 inch, cause you have 18 inches...with my 17 inches I'm afraid that the caliper touch the inside of my wheel...

nah, you should be okay. Factory rims are 17" and I heard a few others on here already put 17" rims from several other manufacturers.

American Racing has a warning on their site now, for the 2005 mustang fitment that states "17 two piece wheels will not clear the calipers"

There is a fella on www.corral.net selling his due to NON clearance issues.
http://www.corral.net/forums/showthread.ph...ght=torq+thrust

I emailed Ameican racing yesterday and asked about the CL205 wheel, in 18X8 & 18X10. They said the CL205 is just a black painted Torqthrust II and the spoke shape is the same.

What bugs me (maybe adrenalin can help me on this...since he lists his wheels as 5.5 BS front {25MM} and 7.125" rear {45MM}) the american racing sizing charts show a max BS on the 18X8 as 5.25" (or 22MM).

American racing warned me that the caliper may contact on the 18X8 if I didn't go to a 5.5" BS.

They haven't answered my last email asking how to get a 5.5 BS when it isn't offered, or how BS can effect the caliper, as the spoke is the contact issue.....

Also a handy sizing chart........

http://www.bigcustomwheels.com

Look at the bottom right corner on the home page for the sizing calculator

Whomever you deal with make sure they call American Racing. When they ordered my rims I told them that the guy (Hoppy) told me to go with 5.5" BS on the front. When the rims arrived they were only 5.25. I asked what happened and the dealer said that 5.5 BS was not available so I said . Told them to call AR which they did and a few weeks, well, 4 weeks later my 18x8 with 5.5" BS arrived. Although the website does say 5.25 you can order the 5.5. Part # 405-886555 , crap, now more people will be getting the same rims

Thanks for the help.

I'll request the 5.5" BS. The copying should not be too close since mine will be the CL205's Black and flat racing caps, no spinners or bullets.

According to American Racing you should be using 5.5" backspacing on an 8" wide rim. You might be okay with 5.75" but I am not sure if it will rub anywhere on the inside when you turn the tires.

I spoke with them again today and the 17" is the issue not the backspace.
The front caliper will not clear due to OD of the rim and curvature of the 17" spokes. (but if yours is a V6 not a GT you should be OK still)

I ordered the front CL205 18X8's today from.... (Verbally using the correct PN)
http://www.hotrodsusa.com/

They're $328.13 each for the fronts and $50.26 shipping for the two.
The did apply the 10% coupon listed on the site.
Puts them at $646 incl shipping.

The 18X10 are $350 each (when I get some more $$$ and the wife cools down)

I keep thinking in terms of the 18" rim. 17" rim will not clear the brakes but on the 18" rim you still need to make sure you get the proper backspacing. With the 18" rim there is not much room between the rim and the brake so there is no way I will be able to go with a different brake package
