Anyone else thinks the S197 looks more like the 69/70 than the 67/68 that everyone keeps saying it's a retro version of? The rear of the S197 looks nothing like the 67/68 Fastback
There have been a few threads with heated debates on this topic. For some reason I could only find one other thread.

Link did not work. Anyways, the '05+ Mustang borrowed styling cues from several generations of Mustangs past. '64 1/2-'66 gills in the headlight buckets and fastback roof, '66 GT350 windows,'65-'69 foglights, '69-'73 and '94-'04 spoiler, '99-'04 wheels arches, '79-'04 black plastic mirrors...ha, ha.
The '05+ Mustang is the perfect blend of the right styling cues to fit any classic 1964 1/2 -1970 theme. However it is still a modern design. No one does retrofuturistic design like J Mays. He also did the New Beetle.

I forgot to mention the side sculpting that is unique to the '05+ Mustangs but is reminiscent of the '64 1/2 -'68 Mustang's C-indention.
The 2006 Shelby GT-H was inspired by the 1966 Shelby GT350-H. The 2008 Bullitt was modeled after the 1968 GT. And Saleen's Heritage 281 has a 1969 style Boss 302 stripe. The Saleen PJ has 1970 Boss stripe, shaker and 302 cubic inches of V8.
It's just a matter of personal what you prefer. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
Here is a quote from Motor Trend about the Mustang's style:
"The not-so-subtle J Mays rehash blenderizes 1967-1968-vintage proportions with details from 1965-1966 and 1969-1970 models."
