Think I'll play it safe and avoid them.
The spacers mentioned are simple plate spacers that often require the installation of longer studs. THOSE are definitely bad for the reasons mentioned. You're now hanging the weight of the car on the studs vs. the hub - a big no no. The H&R spacers actually bolt to the hub using the stock studs and are supported by the hub itself - hubcentric as mentioned above. They then have their own studs as well as a machined hub that the wheel mounts to. They effectively extend the hub, not just hang out in the breeze on longer studs.

not pushing pros/cons of spacers, just another comment...offset will affect scrub radius, which with ABS brakes could cause the steering to pull...Ive often wondered why the huge offset on newer cars, but *think* its mostly to minimize steering pull during abs operation...would expect bumpsteer has to get a bit worse too.
I think spacers or deeper wheels might DECREASE bearing loads a bit as the wheel becomes closer to no offset- big positive or negative offsets will stress stuff, but with the huge existing wheel offset, the spacers just decrease it...
just throwin this out to see what others think...just another opinion

I've just installed my 1" high quality spacers from german company Powertech (not sold in the US I belive)

I must say the agressive look is a must and driving experience and cornering on moutain roads is quite better

Pics are coming very soon

I'm running ebach 1" spacers in the rear. so far so good. I was a little unsure about putting them on the front but will order this weekend. This is on top of 9.5s on the rear!

I bought my 1" wheel spacers from Tillman Speed for $150 for all 4! talk to CR, I believe they were called TopLine Wheel Spacers.

going on 6 months, no problems. long 1200 mile haul from myrtle beach, a couple events at the race tracks and back, still snug! no problems

I have got 18x9.5 shelby rims in the front and back and can feel the front hitting something when cornering very sharply when parked or at very low speeds. Since the rim is pretty thick, would a spacer be what I am looking for to stop the knocking or what? Which size would I need to get?

In order to install the spacers, did you have to cut the studs? I have the same wheels on my GT.
