I was out so I missed the game but I am a CAPS fan.... The rookie looked good though from what I've read.

Ya, that Ovechkin is one to watch out for, he's gonna be tearing it up. If only he was on a better team, no offense Mike.

Crosby managed a point in a 5-1 loss too. Ovechkin and Crosby will be the ones to watch, should be an exciting year.

I bought the NHL Center Ice package and have watched three penquins losses now. Seems like it was not worth it now. :notnice:

I thought the pens were going to be for real in 05?

NO DEFENSE=NO WINS

Cheer up Mike, at least you got to see a 3 point night from Crosby (including his first goal) and a 2 goal game from Lemieux (first in 2 1/2 years). And 2 of their 3 losses were overtime, so those could've gone either way. At the very least they will be an exciting team to watch, but i think they are going to be a lot more of a force in the next 2 or 3 years.

Well I get to see their [pens] new goalie tonight. We will see if the Pens can survive 50 shots on goal on a regular basis....

I'm going to the hockey game on Friday. Its not NHL (its AHL) but its pretty fun and pretty cheap ($15 any seat).

Out of curiosity, why did they build Fleury and Crosby up so much (when they were drafted), but they are only playing Crosby. Why are they not playing Fleury?

I went to the Pens opener. I even got to see the Cup. That was my first time. how cool.

The NHL is trying to use Crosby to sell "The New NHL" in the states to increase popularity. It's a very Lemieuxish situation, but i think its safe to say that Crosby has even more pressure than Lemieux did just because of the time he came along (after lockout, new rules, equipment, etc.). That kind of pressure could snap a lot of people, but hopefully Crosby will thrive on the pressure.

And i think the reason they aren't playing Fleury is that they think the pressure of "50 shots on goal on a regular basis" would have been pretty tough for any 18 year olds. Some players do better in the NHL if they get a year or two to develop in the minors, it has nothing to do with them not being good enough or anything like that. Look at Jason Spezza, did some time in the minors now he's tearing it up.

What Scott said

Goalies seem to take more time to develop (i.e. DiPietro)

Goalies usually hit their peak around the mid 20's.

Crosby seems to be handling the pressure well, then again, he has had the spotlight on him a lot up here in Canada since he was 14. During the lockout he was in the news every day.

I guess Fleury got a taste last night. To bad it was a loss. I think the Penguins will win eventually. :bang:

What a night though; Steelers and Penguins on at the same time. Plus Playoff baseball. My wife would get into one sport, then I would change the channel. She got so mad.

Hmmmm... why isn't Lindros hurt yet...? Not like him to take second place, even to Daze.
